Just remember what goes in will be the main cuprit for weight gain. Start counting calories, remembering fat has twice the calories as protein or carbs per gram.

I have serious problems with steroids and weight gain. I was given steroids over 30 years ago for allergies and gained 2 stone over a very short space of time. The problem then was that they made me permanently hungry. If there was nothing fancy to eat, I would go and bake something and then eat all of it. Unfortunately, it took a long time and by that, I mean years before I could get rid of it. Even virtually starving myself made no difference. It would appear that they take a very long time to get out of the system.

Fast forward 20 odd years and I am back on steroids in the form of inhaler and emergency doses and the weight has piled on again but this time I am not eating a great deal but I am considerably less active. This extra baggage does not help with my breathing/heart problems at all quite apart from being very depressing.

When I spoke to my GP about the extra weight, her response was that I was not too bad at 2 stones overweight and that it was better to be overweight than underweight. I am not sure I agree with her though.

Hopefully someone here will be able to provide a solution.

Pay attention to what you're eating. Have healthier lower calorie snacks available for when you get the munchies - little easy peel oranges, carrot sticks, etc. When serving food use a small plate and fill half with veggies or fruit, a quarter with protein foods like meat, fish, egg, beans, and a quarter with carb foods like rice, potatoes, pasta.

Usual story with steroids...

Have to be mindful of what you are eating AND the amount,,,

I can eat a whole ginger cake or a whole packet of biscuits etc...

Its a compulsive thing with me. Chocolate especially...

The idea is best not to start it in the first place!

I have carrots, non sugar tunes and plenty of cottage cheese with pineapple coz it's low calorie...

I do sympathize with your predicament...

When you say you are on Steroids, I assume you are taking them orally.

If this is the case, an inhaled steroid would be better for you as they act at the point of need, rather than systemically as an oral steroid would.

I very much doubt inhaled steroids would contribute to being overweight.

Of course feeling unwell and not being able to exercise could be an issue.
