does anyone suffer from both asthma and COPD?Is it possible to get a blue badge as my condition is worsening, and am developing allergies to household cleaning products/ perfumes and even scented candles!
Asthma+ COPD: does anyone suffer from... - Lung Conditions C...
Asthma+ COPD
I have both asthma and copd but am fortunately only mild. It's not the condition you have but how you are affected by it which is important. I know nothing about blue badges but I know others here have them and I am sure they will be in soon. x
Thank you for replying. I definitely feel the condition is slowing e down enormously....forever sitting down to get my breath back and as i work alot outdoors, it's becoming difficult to keep on top of things.....
Good luck with that cordless. I don't know the criteria for getting a badge but I have heard others saying you have to go through the council. I hope you do get it. x
Hi
Eligibility for a blue badge demands on your mobility needs rather than the condition
You can apply online,
I have moderate copd but mild asthma too but sorry no idea about blue badges
If you receive PIP/DLA then (in most cases) a Badge is issued on request. If not you have to justify why you should have a badge.
The Equality Act 2010 is the piece of law to use:
Do you have "a physical or mental impairment which has a substantial and long-term adverse effect on your ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities", if yes then you meet the requirements for "disabled".
Direct discrimination -
This is when someone is treated less favourably than someone else because they are disabled.
If your breathing makes it difficult/impossible for you to enjoy the benefits and services of an able-bodied person then you should be entitled.
Are you able to access the council building from the furthest car parking bay within their car park without the need to stop and recover, at a reasonable pace (around 3mph) and arrive at the entrance in fair health i.e. no more breathless than an able-bodied person? If yes, then you would be unlikely to be awarded a badge; if no then it's 50/50 BUT if rejected, you can appeal (and should).
Make sure that, within the claim you use the terms "less favourable", "enjoy the benefits" and "I am disabled" - because these three 'statements' are terms used in the Act and the adjudicator will know that (and that you also know that).
It's not a guarantee but it's your best chance of success!
I'm 63 and hoping to get early retirement as things seem to be worsening....Thanks for your very informative reply and your tips ! I'm hoping to qualify for some help to this infuriating disability....
cordless, hope you are aware that, unless awarded before you reach retirement age, you won't qualify? If you plan to claim then you need to do that sooner rather than later!
Just thought I'd mention it
Good luck and best wishes
sorry, I'm referring to the PIP & DLA not blue badge - just ignore me ... having one of my moments! ;-0)
thanks again for the info,...i had pneumonia 3 years ago and couldn't find any info regarding my any help I could get whilst recovering. As I was/am self-employed, and have worked since I was 15, I didnt think I qualified for any assistance, so it's great to have feedback from people like yourself as it restores my faith in that somehow/way there might be something for me. I am hopingto get the wheels in motion now, but am totally green ( ie thick!!)in these matters...
I am 69 with severe COPD & Emphysema & Asthma and I was refused Blue Badge twice. On the third occasion I gave worse day scenario and got it! Best of luck. I repeat Stones comments.
