Flagyl for bronchiectasis

Just wondering if any of you fellow bronchiectasis friends have been prescribed flagyl for an exacerbation. If so, how was your experience? Mine has been a nightmare & now I am considering stopping after 4 days. Thanks!

Hi, I've taken it, long ago in Africa for amoebic dysentery. It wasn't very nice so I sympathise with you. Can you hang on to the morning? Please give your doc a call to discuss ways to take it that don't make you feel so bad. Good luck. P

Had Flagyl in the past it was terrible but I took the course. Have it with food and take probiotics. Drink a lot of water.

Thanks so much. I took Flagyl 2 years ago with nausea & upset stomach. This time it is much worse. The brain fog, incredible weakness & heart palpitations are scary.

Ok better to call the doctor..are you allergic to penicillin? I am so I have to take clarithromycin or azithromycin which make me sick too..I can’t take ciproflaxin either that gives me heart palpitations..the only one I can tolerate these days is doxycyclin but I have to take a 14 day course or spiramycin..

I am down to augmentin, omnicef, & rocephin shots. The NP thinks hemophilus influenza is lurking in there & the flagyl would help. Sure is tough treatment. Thanks for the help.! Bless you!

Oh dear..he could take blood tests and sputum samples to see if it is lurking or not..wishing you well xx

Hi ask them to take a sputum sample to find out if it is Haemophilus. I have it it has colonised which resulted in a 10 day Hospital stay. I was never treat with Flagyl and I had it for 6 months before admittance. The culture will show which antibiotic however it didn’t respond to either of the recommendations for treatment.
