Hi everyone,

Has anyone been on Azithromycin 500 mg. 3X per week? I am particularly interested in hearing if it improved your quality of life and if so, how long did it take to notice an improvement. Also, please share your experience with this.

Thanks to all.

Hi! I started taking it a couple of months ago. No problems with the med so far and I'm feeling well. I have regularly had three or more infections each year so I'm hoping this will be the wonder drug that will stop it happening.

Good luck! I hope it works for you. xx Moy

Thanks MoyB! Yes, I had the same experience with infections as you. I am hoping it helps my fatigue and energy levels as well as preventing infections.

Quite a few people on this forum take it to discourage infections in bronch. I took it for 5 years. I did very well on it. I had to stop it in the end because I started taking digoxin for my heart

My xperience of this drug has been positive one.

I used to have an infection most months.now ,last year I only had 1. So it’s win,win on that front.

I also take co-trixamole on Tuesday,Thursday and Saturday .

My lung health isn’t good. I’m on Nintendanib, but I think the drug regime has helped me have an improved quality of life.

Apologies, but I can’t remember how long it took before I felt any better. Take care

I have been taking Azithromycin fo several years now and it has been good for me. Unfortunately I started an exacerbation beginning December, first In nearly two years and am only now beginning to get back to normal.

I have been on it for a long time. It made a massive difference. I was having one infection after another although I still have flare ups they are not as frequent.

Hi KitKat!!!I've been on Azithromycin for well over 7yrs now (as well as Resprim Forte twice weekly for about 3).

My mucus production is significantly less, which I attribute to the Azithromycin.

I have less than 15% lung function, and am on a ventilator 18-24 hours a day, but I feel the combination of my meds keep me relatively comfortable and allows me to be able to focus on more positive and practical things like being able to walk short 20mt distances.

May you, also, be able to feed your focus and starve your distractions!!!

After couple of years with constant infections, once I was clear of pseudomonas etc my consultant put me onto 1 Azithromycin 250 daily six months ago, and it’s keeping me ok. I’m due to see her next month, don’t expect any change. I don’t go into any public places usually, and I’m seeing her at a small clinic not in hospital. Was due to see her last November but she cancelled me because of rising numbers of covid and flu, even though I was fully vaccinated. Best regards, Jean x

I recently started Azithromycin three times weekly after multiple infections last year. So far it seems to be working. I wish you well on it.

Hi Been on & off with Azithromycin for 3+ years. Unfortunately it has not worked for me with my Bronchiectasis.

Unfortunately Never really felt any improvement when taking 2x day / 3days week - always left me feeling very tired/ drugged out - so had to stop - now intense daily breathing exercises + carbocisteune (2x 3days) seems to work + 14days Ciprofloxin for ‘flare ups’

We are all different - just sharing my experiences and what I experienced

Yours KiwiB

Hi I currently take azithromycin 500mg 3 days a week and it does keep chest infection at bay mostly I am struggling with constant mucus cough lately but had covid on top of a infection .it was about a month before I noticed the difference from 250mg to 500mg but had been free of infection for 2 yrs prior to December 22. It has a upset stomach side effect for me. I have been on it for 6yrs

Hi, I take these three days a week and have done so since April last year. So far I have kept well and not had any flare ups so I feel they must be doing some good. Cannot really say if they have helped my energy levels as I was put on an NIV mask at night at the same time so hope you soon feel some benefit. Best wishes Ruth

I have bronchiecstasis and I’ve been on Azithromycin 3x a week for 5+ years, after getting 4-5 chest infections a year. Prior to this I was on Doxycycline as a prophylactic but that didn’t make any difference to the number of chest infections I was getting. Since starting Azithromycin I have only had 1 chest infection, and that was in the first summer - my lung consultant advised me to stop them in the summer because ‘people don’t get chest infections in the summer.’ Clearly they do because I got the worst infection I’d had in a long while.

I also have severe asthma, and about 3 years ago my dose was changed to 500mg, because it has been found to help asthma patients. I haven’t noticed any difference in my asthma, but its prevention chest infection has been brilliant. I haven’t noticed any side effects.

I've been taking Azithromycin 3 X a week for about 4 years. It certainly stopped the frequency of chest infections. I found it best to take it at night. I have COPD and asthma. I hope this helps a bit.

Been on azithromycin almost since initial diagnosis 12years ago as I kept getting infections. I took 250mg daily for 3 wks, then reduced it to 1 tablet, 3x weekly as it gave me stomach problems.

Manage this well & it has made a big difference, eliminating constant infections. Good luck!

I was put on it a few years ago, but it gave me a terrible sore mouth. I am inclined to get mouth ulcers. So, I wasn't able to test it for keeping infections at bay. Anyway, after eradicating black mould from our home I haven't had any chest infections. Prior to that I had loads.

Hi,I was put on these when I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis but for me it didn't help at all and made no difference (but I understand it's helps more than it doesn't) Luckily I have a very good doctor who always listens to me and she suggested I come off Azithromycin and try doxycycline (1 tablet per day) and I've been alot better with doxycycline,My chest consultant said he wouldn't normally recommend doxycycline over Azithromycin but he's happy for me to stay on doxycycline but like others have said we all react differently to drugs

Hi KitKat1954, I have been taking Azith for 11 years now and call it my miracle pill. It changed my life. I went from pneumonia every 5-6 weeks to health in a very short time and it has kept me free from infection. I am now entering my 3rd year without an infection and feel it has given me my life back. Good luck and take care, Maximonkey

Hi - I’ve been on Azrithromicin for a couple of years, 3 times a week. Prior to that I was getting infections every few weeks. It made a huge difference. I had an upset stomach for a week or so but then it settled down, good luck to you!
