Both these drugs pirfenidone and nintedanib available in the market since long time for treatment for fibrosis or lungs scarring

My question is which one is more effective in reducing lungs scarring pirfenidone or nintedanib based on long terms clinical trial

there is lots of literature available in google but very confusing as far as pro and cons and cost benefits in reducing or at least stopping the progression of lungs scarring is concern

Further, there is also various literature available online that both pirfenidone and nintedanib are prescribed to patient at the same time a combination of medicines

So please advise on this aspects as well if there are additional benefits if taken both of these medication as combination at the same time

Have you looked for clinical trials comparing the two medications? You could try the Trip Database at tripdatabase.com

Hello,

I done a clinical trial a year and a half ago. They were testing the effect of taking perfinedon and nintedanib, I got very ill with it, I think it was the perfinedon that affected me. At the end I was prescribed nintedanib which affected my liver a couple of times, but other than that I feel ok. I don't know the results of the trial as they don't tell you for a couple of years, so I don't know which one would be more beneficial.

I know a few people that have been on perfinedon for a while and they are well but I know of other people that couldn't take the side effects of either one of the drugs and they had to stop taking the medication. Your Clinical nurse or consultant would be the best people to talk to.

Hope you find the best one for you. Good luck and best wishes.

Suffering with IPF I have been taking Pirfenidone since July 2013.

No major problems, ensure you always take whilst eating food.

My FVC results have improved and are now stable.
