Having a problem getting rid of this infection. 4 lots of antibiotics and still lots of sputum. I have strained my lower abdomen with all the coughing and now can't expectorate at all because if pain. Anyone with this problem who has found a nebulizer helps.

Oh that sounds painful. I hope you feel better soon. I have bronchiectasis but have not had a sprained abdomen. I would not be without a nebuliser it is a marvelous help with mucous. I also have idiopathic subglottic stenosis which is a fancy word for narrowing of the trachea due to scarring and have to have it lasered frequently to breathe. As the scaring grows back it is harder to get the mucous up and the nebuliser is a great help.

Hi I have recently come out of hospital after ten days with a flare up. The infection had been there since August. Hospital gave me nebuliser with liquid ventolin and saline water. They recommended daily use of the prescribed saline water through the Neb but not daily liquid ventolin. It helps to thin the mucus making it frothy making it easier to get up. I have bronchiectasis plus immune disorder and they use liquid ventolin as a back up so they don’t want me to rely on it.

The saline water through the neb does work though. Worth a mention.

Oh my. That sounds awful. It's hard enough to get the mucous up without stenosis of the trachea.

I know the feeling I have almost permanent pain in my right side from trying to get junk off my lungs ... 2 lots of antibiotics and 2 lots of steroids and I do feel the end is in sight ... I actually hate nebulisers they make me heave something awful so declined one from the doctor ...I also have Carbosisteine which I could take more of if needed but have stuck to 3 or find myself trying to clear my throat all night ! ..... Others think the nebulisers help so each to their own, maybe try the sauna effect, see if that helps x

Thanks for reply. Sorry the nebulizer didn't work for you but I think I may give it a try.

I found when i have a problem coughing that without medication that if I use my nebulizer just for breathing it works some of it loose and can cough better as it moves the air in my lungs around more

I use a nebuliser and a salt pipe with 2x2 Carbocisteine and haven't had any excess mucous or exacerbations for about 2 years.
