Exercise always helps our lungs whichever type you do. x
Hi, I have emphysema 3rd stage and both my GP and lung specialist told me to push my lungs af\s often as I can.
Hi,
I also have severe emphysema and was a bit puzzled about how much exercise I should do. However, going up hills is good, as long as you monitor yourself. Stop if you start getting too breathless and don't go too fast. I monitored myself with an oximeter and whilst my oxygen levels went down to 83 they came back within one minute to 97 when I stopped. Water is good and bring an emergency inhaler, just in case. If you overdo the exercise your lungs will let you know, as they become over inflated and you can get a pain in your back.
I've always loved walking up hills and it is my way of monitoring myself.
Good luck
G'day homegirl......stay away from the hills....It is not your lungs that are the concern...it is your heart. Before you undertake any form of exercise check in with a pulmonary physiotherapist, and if possible start pulmonary rehab classes...
My wife tried to do what you are thinking of..right side of her heart doubled in size....everyone worries about how the lungs will cope but it is the heart that is put under immense stress....Pulmonary exercises are designed to keep your lungs operating to their maximum, but under strict supervision of a qualified Pulmonary rehab physio...not so much on the running but walking and exercises that are proven to help...Best wishes with it.....
