How to blow up your consultant!

6 months ago my respiratory consultant told me I had a pseudomonas infection. This was not treated for that time so when I saw her I wa feeling pretty terrible after months of lung congestion, breathlessness, fatigue also my heart and RA had been badly affected. I am afraid I burst into tears and gave her both barrels on everything that I was feeling and what I thought of it. There was little she could say though she told me how overworked she is. Next day I was offered speedy antibiotic treatment, a scan and lung capacity test. This has helped enormously and I feel much better. What a pity to have to go to such lengths to be given what should simply be good professional care.

You certainly deserve better care Shonkie. Hoping you continue to feel better. Xxx

The standard treatment are antibiotics and you should have got them at the time. Can't say I am delighted with my respiratory consultant either. Your treatment was so simple, the delay IMO was shoddy. Glad you are feeling better.

That's their excuse for a lot of things, makes me sick (literally). They're only human I suppose. There are a couple of doctors in my surgery I definitely stay clear of. By the way I loved the title, nice one. We have all had that thought about a certain doctor or consultant. Hope your on the mend 🙂

I don't get this Shonkie. . My G P phoned me at work 15 years ago , told me I had Pseudomonas and to get down to the chemist where a prescription of ciprofloxacin was waiting. Its never been back. I'm very sorry you were not treated more quickly. Why didn't your GP prescribe after sample test? 😤

You are quite right but this one was in the hands of the consultant as she diagnosed it . My GP surgery is actually excellent. I am glad to say I am feeling much better after starting on a nebulised antibiotic which happened remarkably quickly after I blew up!

You must have been feeling awful. I hope the antibiotics you were given were at least 14 days of ciproflaxin? If your infections with pseudonymous continue you will need iv antibiotics. I suspect you are immunocompromised so will need to keep on top of this. Good luck I hope you feel better soon.

WELL DONE YOU SHONKIE!

At last you are getting the proper care. It doesn’t matter if your consultant is overworked. If she doesn’t do a proper job with her patients, what’s the point?

Hopefully your comments will also make it better for her other patients too..

As I’m sure you can realize, I’ve been there, had to do that too!!

All the best!

Good for you Shonkie , you shouldnt need to resort to this but at least it did you some good and got the treatment you so badly deserved. Sorry but being overworked doesnt excuse shoddy treatment. I wish you well and hope you get better soon x ps had to laugh at your title on this post x

bless you, that is disgusting leaving you to suffer without treatment, good for you giving her both barrels. I hope you continue to enjoy good health. Take care Shonkie 🥰 xx

I have learnt that tears and letting go with both barrels can get a better outcome. I feel we sometimes just go along so as not to rock the boat and it doesn’t get us anywhere. Well done you. Wishing you well xx

Unfortunately now they have discovered Ciprofloxacin does work on many infections I fear that once they've established its an infection its the answer .to their prayers... Unfortunately there are some amongst us that can't take them without being ill..If I feel for one minute that my doctor is going to suggest them I instantly say do t even think of giving me those Cipro .. they make me very ill..

If they do work on you then great .... but they should warn their patients they don't suit everyone

I have the same problem as I have RA and they are contraindicated for that as they inflame tendons. The local pharmacy has advised me to avoid all floxacins.

A while ago after my horrible and scary experience, I read something that urged to check up on floxacins which I did ..... I went onto Google likeyou do which in turn bothered me enough to check out You Tube and listen to some stories that some have had with Ciprofloxacin and another I think was Levofloxacin. IT WAS THEN I realised just how inconsiderate the medical industry are
