Good morning all, hope you’re all well. Just a quick one, my left ankle (very rearely my right) is swollen by 7ish every night. It’s not huge but it is definitely swollen and hurts at times. Anyone else have this. TY xx

I usually find my left ankle swells each evening. I try and elevate my legs as that’s what my GP said to do.

Get it checked out though Annie just to be sure. Xxxx

Are you taking any diuretics? I had this happen when my heart was not able to pump the fluid properly around my body....eventually happening with both ankles. The pain came when it was very noticeably swollen.

As sassy recommends, please get it checked out.

Hi I have found for the past 5 weeks both my ankles and feet are permanently swollen (I usually have lovely slim ankles).

I went with this symptom and a few others to my doctors last week and she is doing tests for thryoid, diabetes and vitamins. She also said I might need a couple of very minor tests in hospital to rule out anything serious. Not sure what that's about.

I recommend you go to your doctors as while my symptoms made no sense to me they did to her. Let us know what happens. x

Good luck to you Bev with all the tests. Xxx

Thank you sassy. The thyroid test has come back and apparently I am borderline under active. Have to have another test in 3 months. x

Thanks sassy that is kind of you.

The symptoms which are most trouble to me are the swollen ankles and feet and chronic indigestion. These don't fit in with thyroid and the doctor did mention the possibility of another test in hospital of 'sticking a finger up my backside'! and somthing else. Sounds horrible but she said it's to rule out anything serious.

Of course I am now convinced it's bowel cancer (as you are). I have known 2 people pass from this as they weren't diagnosed until the late stages. x

No Bev I’m not convinced it’s that and am determined to remain positive. It’s hard not to worry that l can understand. Lots of hugs coming your way. Xxxx 😘

Digestive problems, Gerd etc can definitely be seen in people who are hypothyroid. Being borderline shows your thyroid is struggling as your TSH is at the upper limits. In other countries you would have been diagnosed as hypothyroid as UK ranges are higher. So your indigestion could very well be related to your thyroid and not something more ominous x

Well I didn't know that thanks Pippa x

I retain about a litre of fluid during the day despite taking diuretics, which leads to swollen ankles, and pass it through the night with 3 or 4 trips to the bathroom. Do have a chat with your GP about it. I believe it's one of the side effects of COPD.

Hi Annie, this happens to me too even though I do have my feet up whenever I sit down. The doctor said not to worry as long as they do not swell enormously, he thinks, as it is many my left ankle, that the cause is arthritis. Take care Maximonkey
