I suffer badly from swollen ankles and feet . I've had problems for years and assumed it was related to my diagnosis of COPD but I don't think it is that at all now. Good luck with your GP. 😬

Saw my doc yesterday about same issue.. I have emphysema- severe- and have a big problem with swollen feet, ankles and lower legs.. have had all the tests and seen cardiologist as they initially thought it could be heart failure, all clear on that (although I do have all the symptoms).. so now thinking is that it’s probably caused by prednisolone ... we’ve tried diuretics , makes no difference... so problem is I need the steroids to be able to function but that’s what the medics think is causing the swelling... you do need to see your doc to rule out other causes.. hope it all gets sorted for you x

I was stage 4 for a few years and had a terrible time with swollen feet, to the extent that some times i just couldnt get shoes on, last year i had a lung transplant and noticed pretty much right away that my feet were back to normal. Now 7 months on they are still not giving me any problems and just to add i will mention that prior to the op i was getting terrible dry skin on my face, which has also gone since the op. I cant say that the condition was the cause, but it does seem connected some how.

I have just got my swollen legs back to normal after 12months. I kept telling all the doctors about them but they never seemed bothered . They were so swollen by last November I had to buy all new pants. Eventually rushed to hospital with them and had a frusamide infusion and an extra water tablet and eventually it went. I now have my kidney function checked every 3 months to make sure they are working properly. Hope you soon get them sorted.

Are you on blood pressure medication? It's a common side effect of amlodipine (amongst others) which is commonly prescribed for BP.

Read the patient leaflets of your meds to see if it could be any of them - the GP never ever notices side effects in my experience.

I was perscribed blood pressure tablets as it was a bit high I haven't taken them first thing doctor said was oh that's the side effect of the tablets I gave u i told him i hadn't taken them so clearly he was going to palm it off on them

Hi i also have uncomfortable n puffy legs ankles etc..i too have been palmed off, doc said it was probably due to varicose veins which u can barely see!! I do raise them & exercise yet it makes little difference to my comfort. I made some skin cream with coconut oil n shea butter as my skin is very dry & put in some essential oils to help ease & it does help ☺

a friend of mine who passed a few years ago from copd, (he kept smoking btw) had v bad swollen legs too! I did try water tablets from health shop but didnt see a difference. I dont take any other medication apart from my inhalers, some pple say it happens to most women in middle age tho they just seem to have probs with ankles not up the legs!!

Good luck getting a diagnosis n do please let us know x*x

Thats outragious to be told 2nd hand news!! You shouldve been told at the time 😮 so sorry to hear this diagnosis for u.... i recomend getting it confirmed by a doctor..

Unfortunately i dont trust the respiratory nurse at my practise- ask her question she replies with "i dont kno as i dont get asthma! " She changed my inhalers recently stating " theyre exactly the same its just combined into 1 " which is not true so ive changed back to what i was on previously, & to top it all hasnt uploaded the spirometry details so have to go back to do it again! She seemed more interested in trying to not give me a gym pass as i had 1 last year for 3 months n should therefore pay to join!! How i or anyone else is meant to be able to afford that on a v limited income i dont know..

Heyho & on we go...

I dont kno much about hf sorry but im sure theres some things that can help as i did look into it before wondering if that was the source of my leg issues.

Good luck at creating a bit of a stir about the lack of patient care! x*x

Yes disgusting i phoned my lung specialist secartary spelt that wrong lol anyway she looked on my notes and nothing about heart failure on there so discreetlying going to get lung specialist to have a word with my doc about it they don't like me at my doctors as I won't put up with cheap Meds so can't afford to rattle his cage but I asked when I had blood tests done if all ok and they said yes either it's a mistake or they were lying either way I'm stressing now 😠

Shanti55 profile image

Oh my goodness !! Its unreal lying or a mistake is jyst not good enough !! 😯 might be worth trying to speak to a doctor tho to confirm 1 way or tother & if u explained on the fone why its important that might help. You have a right to know the truth!! Best not try to worry yourself meantime sounds like theyve messed up big time so probably just a mistake..hopefully!

I dont kno if they are changing the booking system where u are but theyve been doing it round here & its caused absolute chaos... to the point my eldest son was 1st given a prescription with the wrong address on & then told the wrong blood test results, which has had him in a right confused & upset state! So double n double check again. Great news that the lung consultant hadnt got it on his notes so good chance theyve screwed up at your surgery too! x*x

Please get this investigated. Last year I was constantly complianing of swelling ankles and increased shortness of breath. I have only 23% projected lung with emphysema COPD. The GP simply advised me to keep my feet elevated. At Xmas I suffered 2 heart attacks and double puemonia and time in Hospital. Now at home recovering with nurses calling in it is obvious that the ankles and breathing was warning me of troubles ahead. It may not be in your case but get it checkes out thoroughly. being told to keep your feet above your hips is not good enough!!

That's all doctor said I feel there not intrested I have a lung specialist appointment in 2 weeks if she can be bothered to give me any tests maybe I'll get somewhere i feel so ignored
