Hi, I also have this problem, I have had tests on my heart and venous system but nothing conclusive found, just told to keep my legs raised as much as possible. (not always easy when I'm supposed to keep moving and be as active as possible because of my ot her health problems )They do go down a little overnight while i'm in bed but as the day goes on they swell up again. I do find it very frustrating but as there's nothing I can do about it I have to resign myself to it.

I’ve been having this problem and have come the same conclusion. 😟

Hi I have the same problem. I'm not sure if the cause is the heart failure I have or the severe emphysema and the doc isn't bothered. A doc told me years ago I was carrying 5 litres water in each leg and he explained the reason for my extreme breathlessness was that by the time the water reached my ankles and feet it had already squeezed in all my other organs including airways a nd was filling up more feet upwards. He put on 80 mg daily of furosemide and within a month I felt 20 years younger with no water retention I was able to move about easily once again. However I moved up to Scotland and was put on 40mg and told it wouldn't make any difference. It did and now I just double up as its the only way I know of to deal with it. I told my dr what I was doing and he didn't like it and refused to OK it? I make sure I have increased potassium to make up for any loss.

Sort to have rambled on. It frustrates me the Dr won't make an effort to refer me for tests to find out the cause. My Copd consultant took me off his list when I told him about the water retention . I sometimes wish I could go to a decent private doctor who would take the time and trouble to find out what really is wrong with me. As it is I just stagger along and hope I last long enough to see the spring flowers this year. I no longer take it for granted there will be a next year and others after that. The consultant said to me at my last appointment with him, over a year ago" You're going to die" I just looked back at him I didn't know what I was expected to say to that so I didn't react. He then said I was going to be hospitalised.....I still didn't react.....so he took me off his list. I feel like the Lone Ranger lol.

Yes, I too suffer with swollen legs and ankles, have done for a few years now. Lung specialists believe it is heart related as I also have problems there, heart specialists don't seem sure and the specialist that did venous tests couldn't find a pulse from my pelvis so sent me to a hospital for ultra sound, they couldn't find a pulse either. They decided all they could do was supply me with a pair of compression stockings! Oh, and keep my legs raised as much as possible. The stockings didn't help by the way.

Yes, and I wear stretchier socks, lace up shoes and skinny jeans, which seems to help a little. Can put 2 kg fluid on weight if I eat too much salt. Heart OK.

I used to take Furesimide but it stopped working for me. Changed to Bumetinide which works better. Two in the morning one at lunch. Sometimes I get swelling despite that , so have been advised to take two at lunchtime as well to get rid of the fluid.

My ankles and feet were swelling mainly caused by blood pressure meds. My doc took me of them and increased the strength of the pill that lowers my heart beat to 55 beats per min. This has reduced the swelling considerably to an acceptable level.

May I suggest you read the side effects for any meds your taking to see if leg/ankle swelling is listed then point it out to your Dr.

I have stage 4 Emphysema and following a minor stroke was found I had AF so I take a lot of meds and use various inhalers. Recently the GP advised me to take statins to reduce my high risk stroke factor. I have tried 2 types so far and each time my legs and ankles swell until I cannot wear my shoes and so on. I wonder therefore could it e connected with something you are taking?

Go to your doctors to see if a medicine is doing this I Carnot believe I suffered years and it was a blood pressure tablet doing it
