High as some of you have read my older post of pneumonia I am a 29 year old male father of three kids and never ever experience a bad disease like bacterial pneumonia this took a toll on me the problem is that my heart rate is been elevated I still feel fatigued and dizzy but I think I am improving little by little super slow I noticed that my heart rate is 90 to 100 at rest I'm praying that is not heart-related issues I just finished my 10 day antibiotic treatment yesterday and I also seen my pulmonologist yesterday he checked my lungs and said that my lungs sound very clear he didn't prescribe me no more antibiotics and he said he's going to do a CT scan and three weeks just to make sure it's completely gone and also he said that I might be having like a depression or stress or anxiety type of thing and I am kind of scared cuz my heart rate is high but I don't know if this is normal it's at 90 to 100 right now at bed rest hopefully it's just stress of this recovery or pneumonia that is causing my heart to be high I'm going on my third week of pneumonia and I'm just trying to hang in there and stay positive for my 3 kids I still don't have the full energy to be up and down but I'm trying also I've been in my room most of the time better said all day let's see I am confused because some say bed rest and I've been in bed I don't know if my heart is acting up because I am just laying down most of the day

If you feel tachycardic that is your heart speeding up in your chest you should go to A&E or call 111..

Some antibiotics can do that by the way..stress is not a valid diagnosis until you have had a proper examination and nothing has been found.

Even if it is stress it should be treated..

Steroids certainly can do that too..

How do you know you have a high heart rate?

Who takes your pulse or blood pressure?

It should always be done at the same times..

Take care Adrian, keep to rest and drink fluids as much as you can. As I said if you feel worse than you did I would not hesitate calling emergency services.

Ok do you need to for medical reasons? because it may raise your anxiety levels..

Personally I have a pulsoxymeter which I have to use if I feel unwell to monitor oxygen levels.

I stopped using it on a daily basis, same as the peakflow, I found it stressful in the end, always watching for variations which we are not medically trained to interprete, I thought you know your own body, when you feel unwell you check it so you can use your action plan..

Hope you feel better soon Adrian. 😊

Hi Adrian--any kind of illness can make your heart rate go up--your body is trying to fight off a virus or bacteria--Don't panic--I have pvc's and if I get to worrying about them they get worse--It is a vicious cycle--3 weeks is not a long time and pneumonia is very hard on a body--I have a fib--and my heart beat 120 non stop for 5 days once--your rate is somewhat high at rest but consider what Im saying--and try not to worry--if you need more reassurance see another Dr for a second opinion--My friend has pneumonia right now too--and I have had a cold for 6 weeks--our heart rates are both higher than usual-Mine is mainly my sinuses and im in high 80s at rest---Ill do some more research--Relax--it will be ok--You need to heal--MmeT

Hi, I'm glad to hear the lungs are clear. You still need to be very kind to yourself as it can take some weeks to get back to normal. Your immune system will be low so it's a good idea to get the whole family in to hand washing so they don't pass any bugs on to you.

As for heart rate, as others have said it does stay high when your body is working hard. If you have an oximeter try wearing it while you do deep, diaphragm breathing (demo on YouTube) and watch it go down. Expell all the air in your lungs so you get more oxygen in on the next breath. It's wonderfully relaxing and calming. Good luck. P
