Pneumonia

Hi. I had my follow up chest x-ray for pneumonia 3 weeks ago and the good news is that it's come back clear. I'm really pleased but I'm still coughing at night and feel a bit breathless in the mornings. I told the doctor when he rang me with the results and he said, the infection has gone but lungs take a while to recover and not to worry. But I still do! 😐

It is entirely normal to still feel unwell after pneumonia. The doctor is correct in his opinion. It is important at this stage to not overdo things and take it easy. Unfortunately I have had both pneumonia and pleurisy a number of times and have found if I try to do too much it can significantly impair my recovery.

I have continued to feel the after affects for some months following. When this unwell I have tried to eat healthily, rested during the day when required and taken probiotics/live yoghurt. But most important thing as said is rest!

I'm glad the infection has gone. Look after yourself.

Following a hospital admission with bilateral pneumonia it took me a good six months to recover. Pneumonia is not just a chest infection and recovering can be an extended process.

My husband had pneumonia and was left with a persistent cough for at least 6 months after. Try not to worry and just be aware it can take some time to fully recover.

As all the other replies it takes a while to get over. Gentle exercise and rest when you need to b you will feel better as time goes on.

You’re lucky to have had a follow up X-ray. I had pneumonia when I had Covid back in June, no follow up at all. Still coughing, lungs not working as they should. My asthma nurse does what she can but I think they’re going to have to refer me to respiratory team. That’ll probably be a long wait…….

Of course you do. Just build up your strength and exercise slowly to compensate and look forward to when your feeling great xx
