Is this normal ?

Hello i am 32 years old and i've quitted smoking 2 months ago after a bronchitis (lotsof coughing and productive yellow phlegm , i took no antibiotics ) and a throat infection (really sore and painful throat with deep yellow mucus stuck on it ) .

the last two months i feel perfectly fine but i am coughng up yellowish-greenish mucus in the morning and afterwards i feel perfectly fine. Do you think that that's normal ? is it due to the smoking cleaning process or just my lungs clearing out mucus from the infection ?

Thank u ! :D

Welcome Stevia, what’s normal for one person may not be normal for another so you should really see your GP. Let us know how you get on. Take care xxxx

Drink plenty of fluids to keep everything in your body extra moist, including the mucus. I'm guessing it takes a while to get your lungs clear after a few years of smoking.

Well done you on quitting!

Next time please see your doctor early if you have an infection, antibiotics are necessary when your lungs are compromised to protect them from lifelong damage.

When I gave up smoking it took 6 months to get rid of all the excess mucus afterwards.

Hello, Firstly congratulations on giving up smoking. I don't have to tell you of the rewards. However, you mention the colour of the mucous you have brought up. Apparently there is a colour chart that helps doctors/consultants to have an idea of the kind of infection you have. I would love to be able to get a copy of this colour chart so that I would be able to work out the state of the infection (whenever I have one). As to your example; as it's a yellow colour it suggests you do have an infection and should get a sample off to your doctor to be analysed. It is likely you will be given a course of anti-biotics suitable for the bugs found in your sample.

Hope this helps. Chrys
