Have Read SOME Gov TOFF In My Time BUT This Takes The Biscuit

According to todays paper daily mail Patients will be forced to have blood test before Antibiitcs are issued in greater manchester.

Well i can see few issues CAN deadly infections wait for blood test appontment.

I have blood test booked for end NOV so how thats work.

Then the looking for C reactive protine AND thats second issue as those with lung dieases arthrites and inflammatory issues reguly have proteins in the blood.

With a bit of luck SOME medical expert will poit out flaws in the hype plans befoure they kill someone

Hopefully they'll be some exceptions and the idea won't be rolled out to everyone. On some levels it makes sense if someone's otherwise healthy and the symptoms aren't too aggressive. I'm sure abs are too regularly given out when it necessary.

But yes there are definite exceptions and I would hope medical experts will take that into account. Surely they will!

I wont hold my breath ... my experiances of antibiotc drives is arguing with my GP only to end up at AE where thay have perscribed them.

If the wanted to get did of antibiotcs resictance THEY would make factory farming illegal as that is where all bugs resistance comes from.

From what I read elsewhere, the plan is for a quick fingerprick test in the surgery, to check CRP levels. Seems a good idea if it avoids the over-prescribing of antibiotics

Might work with someone healthy BUT would not with those diseased.

Everytime this drive we us seem to be at sharp end of it.

I’m sure it’s aimed at the “worried well” who don’t need abx. Over-prescribing has caused a spike in ab-resistant bugs which is a real threat to us

I saw the quick finger prick test done on a tv programme some time ago, the GP carried out the test in his consulting room .......but I forget how much it cost the NHS each time.

I have to go for my normal blood test to my local hospital, which takes more time and £1.50 to park.

I am going to try and find the document this story is actually based on. On so many occasions the media only take the information necessary to write the story. Often it's the data they leave out that gives clarity. Basically it's nonsense. Your GP bases a decision to give antibiotics on a number of factors not one. This report is simplistic scaremongering. I could give examples of why this test can and will give false values at times. Or the procedures protocols already in place by NICE etc for the treatment of COPD.

I have recently been told not to take antibiotics until a nurse has been and done a blood test ,apparently this is what I should have been doing and not diagnosing myself until nurse has taken blood test and sputum test ,the nurse will come out same day ,

This was originally reported last year, based on this NICE document nice.org.uk/advice/mib78/ch... I think it was being trialled in the north-west somewhere? I read that not many GPs were interested, because of the cost of equipment, time & staff.

Maybe the test will cost more than the medication ... I guess if it was cheaper then there could be less antibiotics being prescribed unnecessarily

The source of most anti-biotics comes from animals dosed by the farmers. I am surprised that doctors in Manchester aren't aware of this. There is no proof that the few anti-biotics we take for our disease has any affect on lessening there use against other infections.
