I would insist on an x Ray and have it looked into by a specialist

Hi Meet62, chronic cough can be an ongoing problem with lung conditions , however some infections can cause long periods of coughing too. Some lung conditions can only be detected with other tests besides Xray. Maybe you need to broach the ongoing cough with your DR, it maybe the throat that is the problem, or even asthma or several other things only your GP can get them investigated. Good luck hope it is just a prolonged infection.

I was coughing on and off for a year until my doctor did a rast test (not sure if thats the right word) it showed an extreme allergic reaction to aspergillosis which is a mold. Went to see a consultant loads of meds, it can only be controlled not cured. This could be you!

I had a cough for over a year before I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis. It can't be diagnosed from chest xrays or breathing tests, you would need a scan. It's probably worth asking for one for some clarity. If it is bronchiectasis then it would explain why antibiotics are only working whilst you're taking them as when you have a chest infection with bronch. then you need to have longer courses of antibiotics.

In my experience GPs don't tend to have much knowledge of broch. so it may not be something that they think to check for. I even had to end up crying to a respiratory specialist before he would give me a scan because he insisted it was asthma and wouldn't listen when I said I wasn't getting better.

Not what you're looking for?
