Acid reflux

I didn't have reflux until 3 weeks ago when the consultant gave me 3 new medications. Azithromycin one tablet 3 times week. Omeprazolol and an inhaler spiolto respimat. The stomach gurgling and feeling sick and uncomfortable is getting worse. I've tried with food without food switched them round now at my wits end as I had waited so long for the consultation. Anyone like to take a guess which to leave off to help me feel better my next appointment is not till November,

Some people react very badly to "mycins". They can affect gastric motility. I had similar effects with chlarytromycin but was taking it twice a day. I dont know if Azithro can also affect motility and it is only taken three times a week so it should not be an issue - ask GP.

Sounds like you may already have a stomach type problem if they have prescribed omeprazole (should not cause problems you are experiencing). It may be that your reflux is getting worse - do you take your omeprazole on an empty stomach with water 1 hr before eating ?. You need to for full effect (any effect at all). May also need to take it twice a day and even have ranidtinine at night.

See your GP and get them to contact consultant for advice if they cannot help. Reflux can be bad for your lungs so make sure this is being treated properly and sorted out soon.

The advice to take the Omeprazole with water an hour before food is very good advice. Then it should help with reflux. :)

Hiya the azithromycin can do that, I had it for 2 years, take it with a cracker. Ginger lollies and lemon, ginger, licorise tea throughout the day helped me alot. Good luck

Also for the reflux, sleep on your left side, I bought a wedge pillow so that I was half sitting up. And if it all does not help go your a gastro doc and he will up your omeprazole and give you other meds. I know how horrible it is, I feel for you.

Hi I'm on Azithomyacin 3 times a,week too. At first it would leave my tummy feeling windy and delicate, but now I take it at night. It works better for me.

I take omeprazole and all my morning tablets with a probiotic drink and have been doing it since 2008 and my omeprazole has been reduced in dosage now.

My son has azithromycin which can make your tummy very unsettled so that's not unusual at all., I always give him that after food and a probiotic yoghurt drink for his bronchitis flare ups. He was also on omeprazole long term for his reflux (which has probably caused his bronchitis problems in the first place) always on empty stomach an hour before food. However the best thing I ever did was try a reflux wedge they're amazing and he never wakes in the night with his reflux anymore. No Amount of pillows will do as good a job and stop the acid rising he hasn't suffered with it since. Got it from amazon it seems huge at first but he was really happy after the first night of not waking up uncomfortable so that's better than anything else! If you're not feeling well go back to GP for help, Hope you feel better soon

I am not sure how badly you need the inhaler but if you can do without it for a couple of days you could try that as Spiolto seemed to give me very bad acid reflux. I stopped it for I believe 3 days or so and the acid reflux disappeared. I started it again and after two days the acid reflux was back. I stopped and started it a few times and now seem to be able to tolerate the Spiolto.

No idea if that is your problem or not but may be worth a try.

Thanks for that info I was thinking only me got the reflux with spiolto I'll give it a go.

I hope that is the problem as well as then you can either try starting and stopping a few times as I did to see if that helps or ask for a different inhaler.

There was another post a few weeks ago where someone else was having issues with Spiolto and acid reflux.

Good luck.
