I have to admit this has rocked me......

I only made a comment on a thread recently about people being discharged back into the community with little or no support. I'm so saddened by this, and will endeavour to speak for those without a voice when I feel strong enough to do so. It's still early days since Mum's death and it's all too raw.

I know how this lady's daughter feels.....

Strange case on all aspects, reading the article how/why have the family settled on a claim given that an inquest has not been held, hardly the action of a family that is looking to prevent similar problems for patients in the future,as we all are aware death certificates never state copd as a main cause of death, perhaps respiratory failure would be more appropriate i think that one should step back and await more evidence,i am still compiling evidence into the death of my own dear wife within our local hospital and my intentions are to prove their neglect in care and their inappropriate treatment not gain monatary compensation which would be of no use to people in the same position in the future.sometimes i think newspaper headlines are not the best sources of factual evidence.........regards skis

It's disgusting and certainly needs bringing to people's attention. These things should not be happening, . I support you in this. XXX love Bernadette 😠

This is awful but some aspects of this do seem a bit strange for example someone who is semi-comatose holding a phone conversation for 45 minutes? I also don't trust the Daily Mail to report even on the weather!

My thoughts too lilaclil. Plus it sounds as if she herself may have asked to go home, in which case I don't think they can force her to stay. As for bruising on her ankles, I have purple bruises on legs & arms frequently as do many of us from steroids etc. I feel sad for her being alone at her time of need with her daughter being abroad - and sad for her daughter too. But as lilaclil said, it is the Daily Mail - so doubt we will know the truth of it.

How sad for the lady to be discharged then die presumably alone But like others have said it looks as though she may have asked to be discharged. I'm also unclear as to whether she was on oxygen at home given that she is reported to have a large quantity during hospitalisation lots of holes in the article and I find it strange and sad that the family have accepted a monetary pay off without. Inquest been heard albeit a pittance aBut surely what needs to be done is get to the truth I am wondering why the lady didn't use her call button or if she didn't have one another case of neglect .I also don't understand how a semi comatose person could hold a telephone conversation of that length .Has for copD being put as cause of death it is a condition not a cause intrested to hear the outcome .

So sorry to read about your wife, articles in newspapers always catch our eyes like this. Dad died in May, Hospital Sepsis he died of it --we were not told he had it. He had COPD and other complications. We also felt like you- but have not done anything. At 90 you may say that's a good age but it was the fall that took him in to hospital. I now know that they list what you die of in order, but why cant they tell you when your dear Dad is alive. He said he was poorly, but never expected him to go like he did. No amount of compensation will bring our loved ones back. So the newspaper is only looking at how many more papers they can sell xx
