Does anyone know the difference betwe... - Lung Conditions C...
Does anyone know the difference between pulmonary fibrosis and severe copd stag 3? Also how of often should you have a pft.
Hi
Do a comparison.
IPF

COPD

You would normally expect a Spirometer test annually at your medical review.
A full lung function test may only be required once at first diagnosis.
Thanks, my GP thinks it not necessary. As a patient with severe COPD, I Would like to know if I am getting worse. I know you don't get better, but I want to know if it is getting worse. I CAN'T find the difference between pulmonary fibrosis and COPD.

Basically COPD is an obstructive disease OBSTRUCTING air getting into the lungs. Whereas IPF is a RESTRICTIVE disease that prevents oxygen entering into the blood stream from the lungs, the lungs gradually lose their elasticity- That is very basic and in layman's terms - Hope it helps

Thank you Plumbob. That is exactly what I wanted basic explanation. Very scarrey though. It does help to at least know the basics. I am learning more from this site than from doctor. I think I will be finding a new one very shortly. Should have done that long time ago.

Glad you found several of description - I have done a lot of my own research as I had secondary conditions which has even confused the top specialists today
I wasn't happy with original consultant and changed to the great one I have now - never be afraid to ask - it's your body ? But tell them all symptoms as they can only go on what you tell them
