Anybody know the best place to holiday in the uk if you have Copd and asthma

We went to St Ives last July 2013 and I really struggled to walk anywhere. I need to find somewhere that is not hilly! I love to walk ( not far) on a good day about a mile but I am slow it's take about 40 mins. Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Norfolk is very flat and a lovely place been there many times. Xxxx

Don't take it the wrong wAy I spent the last 4 years by the sea up till just over a year ago but every time I go back even for a few hours I get ill so go in land by some Forrest as it is fresher than the sea or make sure there is no works for miles around

Exmouth in Devon. The 2 mile seafront is flat and has plentyof seating along the way to rest. Lots of hotels and B&Bs and large caravan site as we'll.

Having checked it out for mobility purposes last year my mum and I have booked this summer at a place called Goodrington near Torquay , which is right on the beach, with hotel and lovely bar/restaurant attached - I'll try to find the link for you.

I have mod/severe copd, and we usually have a week in Norfolk followed by a week in Suffolk, in mid May when it's usually not too hot or cold. As we are bird watchers we do a a fair bit of walking round reserves. Both counties are mainly flat, and in May are not overcrowded long as you miss out the early and late spring bank hols.

By the end of the 1st week I am able to walk about a mile, stopping to view birds every few minutes which lets me get my breath back.

By the end of the week I can often do 2 miles round Minsmere reserve (brilliant cafe), then to the pub in the evening for a meal and a pint.

The facr that you need to stop to use your bins or scope means that it's easy to get your breath back. Just don't try to hurry it - dawdle and enjoy the experience of some wild places.

Goo luck.

Cleethorpes...cheap, flat, beautiful beaches, good bus and train service. It's like going back to the 50's. No yobs, no miles of arcades, a cracking little shopping centre and loads of ships going in and out of Hull, Immingham. Very friendly resort and almost all the staff English.

Just had a look at Cleethorpes on Google Earth, what a fantastic promenade and a pier too. I must seriously consider visiting.

I'll second Exmouth, as a resident I have too, the sea front area is very flat, you can walk from the town centre to the sea front and then two miles of flat walk along side the beach. The town itself is built on the hill side but there is a good bus service to all parts of the town, just be sure you select something in the flat area by the sea/town centre to stay, lots of hotels, guest houses and rentals available. There is a train service to the centre of Exeter or bus service into Sidmouth both of which are also pretty flat. Just check the lift is working at Exeter Central before you go.

You are right about St Ives you need to be a mountain goat to live there.

Just be prepared for a walk back in time....relaxing, cheap and fantastic fresh air. Free parking all day for blue badge owners too.

I am not sure if it is me but I have found if I am on the west coast Wales or Somerset my breathing is not so good as it is on the east coast Norfolk or Suffolk?

I can recommend a few, Worthing is very flat with lots of parks, bowling and easy shopping with no steps, and a brilliant bus service to travel around if you do not drive. Weston-Super-Mare, Eastbourne. the Norfolk region as suggested, the Fens, Cambridgeshire or as suggested try the disabled holiday site.

I find if I go anywhere in Cornwall my asthma is always worse, some parts of Lincolnshire affect it as well but since I have been here in Somerset it has been fine, strange how it affects some people. Hope you find a nice place to holiday, just come back from Weymouth and that is lovely and flat as well.

Hi Jeannaanne

I had a day in Southport with Calledonia Travel last year....I thought that it was nice and flat and I was able to get to the pier and main street...You would need to check out what else is on offer but it was flat enough for me. I also had another trip to Stratford and Oxford again just short break but Oxford was flat and Stratford round about the river was nice and flat. Hope that helps and enjoy where ever you decide to go.

WOW! Thank you all very much... I'm so spoilt with choices!! We are thinking of hiring a boat on the Norfolk broads in Sept. We have a caravan so I'll check out the rest on the map and hopefully we can visit some places for the weekend if not too far from us. I think Cleethorpes sounds good for close enough for a weekend trip! :-)

I’ll second Southport. My son lives there so we visit often and I love it. The shopping area is all flat and is not far from the sea front where there's a long promenade and a pier which goes out over the sands – sometimes you can hardly see the sea as it goes out so far. There is a shop on the main street (Lord Street) where you can hire a mobility scooter if you want to give your legs a break.

Thanks for starting this thread. It has given me some ideas of different places we can go with our motorhome where I can get out and about on my scooter. Please keep the ideas coming everyone. Thanks, Jan :-)

So glad you started this subject......Last year I stayed at the Hotel Bonair, Sea Front, Paignton. It was lovely....on the flat, opposite the sea ( I had a seaview balcony room ); It is a few yards from the pier. I cannot walk very far at all without stopping, but the town is only 5mins along the front. No cons about this hotel. The food was basic good home cooking but so were the prices!! Very good value for money.

Has anyone been to Axminster Devon? I fancy going and seeing River cottage and Hugh's canteen but not sure if it's flat or too hilly.
