Chest infection?

Hi hope everyone is well.

Was wondering If anyone with asthma has a really sensitive chest like a naseous feeling especially when breathing out. Or has anyone had this when suffering with a chest infection. Had this going on for 6 weeks now! I have been on 2 lots of antibiotics. I definitely have asthma symptoms like waking in the night breathless and need my inhaler but I'm not sure if I have a chest infection as well!! I have constant congestion on my chest and I noticed today that part of my phlemn has a yellow tint to it. Also if I breath deeply it tastes awful in my mouth. Yuk! The horriblist thing is this chest sensitivity though.. oh and the coughing!!! Any advice?? Thanks xxx

Are you still on the antibiotics - if you are, check the patient information leaflet to see if that's included in the side effects? I can get an awful taste from antibiotics, or from the infection itself.

Hi. I finished the antibiotics a good few days ago now and I know what you mean by the taste of them. I was on clarithromycin (maybe spelt wrong) my chest just feels really sensitive when I breath in and out and makes me feel quite sick almost like it feels inflamed inside. I'm not sure if that's what you get with asthma or if you can get it with a chest infection. I've only known that I have asthma for 6 weeks and it came on really badly so badly that I still don't know if I was suffering from a chest infection or asthma onset xx

Do you have a respiratory nurse practitioner at your surgery? That would be a good person to ask about your symptoms. Or phone the BLF helpline on Monday.. All the best, M.

Hi

I feel for you! I don't retch when breathing but as soon as l cough l will retch; lots, and eventually produce the sputum. I am occasionally sick too which sucks big style.

What l try to do is when l feel that l will retch l run to the sink and stand over it until l have finished. Not ideal but l just can't stop myself retching.

Hey mandylou just read all your posts and if this has been going on for a while now I would ask to be referred to a chest specialist and they can then arrange a ct scan of your chest for you. This is the only real way of diagnosing something more than a regular chest infection , ie copd, bronchiectasis etc-which hopefully you haven't got. Has the GP arranged for a chest x Ray to be carried out as they should have done this by now at the very least as it sounds like you have been suffering for weeks and i no from personal experience how painful it can be going backwards and forwards to the GP getting fobbed off and feeling like your getting no where

Take care , andy
