Hello and a friendly welcome to you nategold22 and although I too have severe COPD (and other illnesses) I'm afraid I'm not so sure about your question of phlegm! You know you can phone for free the BLF Helpline who have qualified nurses to help answer any questions etc. They are often a far quicker way to put your mind at rest than say trying to get through to your own Doctors. Obviously they can only advise as they dont have your medical records to go by etc.

You are quite right in that its essential to hold onto your sense of humour- I'd have done a lot of pathetic whimpering otherwise!!

Take care.

Hi Nate, I too have had pneumonia and a problem with the phlegm. I've had respiratory failure twice. About the only thing I can tell you about the phlegm is: it is the least of our problems; but, it is aggravating. I have learned that drinking more water helps thin it out some, making it easier to get it up or cough it up. It has never actually went away completely. I've just learned to live with it. I know it sounds ridiculous, but it seems like milk makes it worse as far as being thicker. Don't know what it is about the dairy products? You might want to mention it to your doctor at next visit. Have a great day!
