I have been coughing for over 5 weeks now and green phlegm coming up. The cough is worse in the morning. I struggled to get a GP appointment but eventually gave me an asthma pump and didnt clear it, I have now just finished a curse of 5 day steroids and still hasnt worked, dont know what to do next

If you are still coughing up green junk, get to a Dr today, if that means Emergency Room, so be it. At best you have a bad infection. Best Wishes, judg69

You need to go back to gp. Even if struggling to get appointment surgery must have on day /urgent appointments. I start calling on the day at 7:59. Opens at 8:00. Keep redialling continually until I get through!!

Sounds to me like you need antibiotics and steroids.

Why on earth hasn't your doctor given you antibiotics? Green stuff means infection and if its not clearing up then you really need these urgently. Steroids will do nothing for an infection - they are to deal with inflammation - nor will an asthma inhaler. Don't be palmed off. If necessary just go to the surgery and refuse to budge until you get seen.

I agree with O2. Coughing up green gunk means a chest infection and only ab's will cure that. Don't wait and demand an immediate appointment.

I agree with all the replies, you need an emergency appointment or prescription. They usually give me a telephone ring back but every surgery is different. Hope you are busy phoning now andall gets sorted by end of day Best Wishes

You need the Doctor to send a sputum specimen for MC&S. So that they can give you a course of antibiotics that targets your infection. Also the course of antibiotics may need to be for a longer duration.

Don't let the receptionist at your surgery fob you off go in there and insist you see a doctor, you shouldn't have to suffer for as long as you have

I personally would recommend you go to the Emergency Room. The hospital can treat you with much stronger IV Antibiotics than you can get in tablets.

i suffer horribly with green sputum production, amoxilian no longer working so sputum sample being sent to hospital for analysis. I find that mucodyne helps to think the horrid stuff so at least its a lot easier to cough it up.

Wish you well,

Jo
