Emergency Inhalers antibiotics

Hi Angiecbr,
I have emergency meds but these are not inhalers.
I use Tiotropium, Forstair & Salbutomol on a daily basis but, when an exacerbation kicks in (Can't complete a sentence without stopping to catch breath ect in my case) then I start with the emergency meds; these are antibiotics and steroids which are prescribed and kept at home to avoid the wait to see a doctor when the exacerbations start - the delay can be quite/very serious.
It would be worth talking to your GP about both emergency meds AND seeing if you can get enrolled on a PR (Pulmonary Rehab) course to improve your knowledge and understanding of the condition, when to start taking the emer. meds. and what you can do to improve your lot.
Dr Google can be okay (this site is very good for sensible information - some really knowledgeable people have helped me on here) but others often leave you felling worse rather than better. A real GP often only has basic knowledge so the PR is a great place to begin.
Good luck and I hope this helps.
I am being assessed on the 17th March at my request for Pulmonary rehabilitation.... so looking forward to doing it .I exercise daily and work have decided to terminate my contract at the end of April as I can't continue in my role .... I am stage 3 but don't feel stage 3 if that makes sense it's always in my head I have copd now ...and even before diagnosis I knew I had it if that makes sense and I continued to ignore it..I need to be patient with my thoughts and feelings on it ...personally I can't wait to finish work horrible place to be ...then September want to back to uni and do a degree in counselling services..
Hi, Angiecbr. I was diagnosed with moderate COPD 2 years ago and have never been offered an emergency pack. I have 2 inhalers - green Neovent as a preventer, and blue Ventolin for breathlessness and when I have to exert myself more. I use Cold and Flu block and Vicks First Defence to avoid colds; wear gloves when I'm out, wash my hands a lot and avoid touching my face. When I have a cold I ask the chemist for an anti-histamine that's safe to take, to reduce the symptoms. I also rinse my sinuses with warm salt water by sniffing the water up my nose, and use First Defence to reduce the amount of bugs there. I also find menthol and eucalyptus cough sweets helpful.
Hope you recover from your cold really soon.
I think I'm over the worst to be fair . I fell in a bog while out walking around the forest the other day and got soaked lol ...just very cautious as recently diagnosed with copd stage 3 ..and I wear scarfs gloves when walking ..thanks for your reply xx
I wear light gloves most of the time when out and about, to avoid touching door handles and other objects that may be carrying germs from other people. It might look old fashioned, but it helps keep the bugs at bay.
I think it depends on the lung condition that you have as GP may not wan you to self medicate unless necessary , talk to your Consultant or GP to see what they say.
I will do many thanks for reply xx
