I have COPD and daily use inhaled steroids but my voice has gone very hoarse. I do wash my mouth as suggested but makes no difference. Anyone overcome this as the inhaler does help my breathing a lot?

Pete used to be like that but seems ok now. Speak to your GP and carry on with your inhaler for now if it's helping., xxx

Ask your pharmacy to check your technique as this can make a big difference. :)

Try to gargle before you rinse your mouth ,. That might help a bit .

I have been using Bricanyl, Seretide and Spiriva for a long time now and over the last year my voice seems to have been affected, I do gargle and rinse well after using. It varies over the day sometimes I can barely speak and it is just a croak I think it is getting worse I am going to speak to my nurse about it, I have had my technique checked before perhaps it is something we just have to put up with.

take care

Yes I was very hoarse for a long time was refered to ENT for small camera up nose and down back of throat diagnosed with GERD and that can make you hoarse as well as inhalers.

With me, the steroid powder inhaler causes thrush, even with gargling. I have found that if I use it just before eating I get thrush less often. Maybe the food takes any powder residue down with it. Might work similarly for hoarseness. I used to get very hoarse with Seretide powder ones but they do a spray one too. Maybe see if your inhaler comes in a spray format?

Do you use a spacer (airo-chamber) when using the inhaler?

If not, then when you go to use the inhaler, most of the med is ending up at the back of your throat, less is being inhaled into your lungs. The inhaler shoots out the med so fast, you have very little time to inhale it into your lungs. The airo-chamber allows you to slowly inhale the med.
