Hi all.

Happy new year to all of you.

Can anybody tell me wether to take my pred at night?

I am in bed with a hacking cough/temp.

But I've read somewhere you shouldn't take them on going to bed.

Please help😩

Hi

it's best to take them in the morning as taking them at night could keep you awake.

you're absolutely right. Take them as early as you can in the morning, they're a bit like caffeine to some people. When I have to take them I set my alarm for 5am, take it then go back to sleep.

Happy New Year :)

Oh no poor you! 🤧😷🤒 my doctor always says to take them with breakfast.

Hope you feel better soon & hope you have a healthier 2017. Happy New Year 🔔🎉🍾🎈🍸🎊

Have always taken 'after breakfast' . Had not heard of the sleep-problem.

But to continue this conversation-the antibiotics always prescribed has been Amoxicillin.

How often are you good people needing to use Preds? And what dosage? My GP seems increasingly hesitant about my using them.

(I am 77, 2 yrs diagnosed COPD/emphysema).

Thanks all: and here's to a comfortable new year!

I was told to always take them early morning as they do interfere with sleep. I do hope you feel better soon. This seems to be a really bad bug doing the rounds as it seems to making everyone cough so much. If it hasn't cleared in a few days don't hesitate to go back to docs my sister had to have 3 lots of antibiotics before the right one was found.

There was an interesting conversation on here a few weeks ago about when to take steroids. Several people had suggested taking them before bed might result in better sleep! Which yes is going against general and medical opinion.

Well I subsequently had to take steroids and decided to try taking them before bed. Previously I found they did contribute to being awake most,of the night. What I found was that for ME I slept really well and had none of the wide awake stints often associated with steroids. I am someone who goes to sleep quickly when I settle to sleep and taking them just before that led to no interference in my sleep patterns for the whole steroid course!

My community nurse tells that the natural time for Adrenalin to kick in is 8 am so take steroids early morning which is what I do. Taken later could effect sleep.
