Good morning gingercracker,

Spirometry is a test that can help diagnose various lung conditions. It is also used to monitor the severity of some other lung conditions, and their response to treatment. This is probably the one you mean. Here is The British Lung Foundation explanation:- blf.org.uk/support-for-you/...

All the best:-)

Spirometry can be done at the GP surgery. They will probably do a reversibility one which is good at distinguishing between Asthma and COPD. They do it once. Then give a dose of bronchodilator and send you out to wait for about 15 minutes. Get you back in to do another one. If there is improvement then it's Asthma. If not COPD. And just to make things confusing you can have both! And the test I will show that.

Good luck

Ah! That all makes sense then. So no inhalers before the first one.

Good luck for your tests

Hi it can be difficult sometimes in early stage copd to distinguish between asthma and copd symptoms as they often overlap. I have both. At first it was just asthma and when I was given proper treatment for it my nurse said my lung function had gone up enough to be out of the copd range. It didn't last long and I do have copd as well unfortunately. x

Good luck with that. Lung function will identify copd and how far on it is. You should also have a chest X-ray. Sue
