coconut oil is very good for dry skin or in boots they sell cream called double base my granddaughter uses it her skin is so dry
I also wear a full facial NIPPY mask at night. I use coconut oil or cream; seems to relieve the dryness. Doesn't do much for my wrinkles, however..hehe. Then again I am 66.
Take care.

You can put cream on your lips, June, but you shouldn't put cream on your face before you wear the mask because it affects the seal and the mask doesn't work as well. Slap it on after you've washed in the morning. If I'm not going out I sometimes put night cream on in the hopes it might help the dryness a bit better. The marks are from the pressure of the mask and fade in a little while. It's not what you'd chose but better than having CO2 retention.

Nice to hear from you too, Sue.
Thanks for the tip about not applying moisturizer etc on my face as it could affect seal. I actually did that last night. Tonight will just dab lips. The full facial mask is so much better for me; I haven't breathed so well in years and actually sleep, just waking a couple of times all without the aid of zopiclone. However, I do take diazepam just to calm me down. I noticed that my heart rate goes down to about 80 and oxy levels 91. During the day pulse can be over 100 so at least now at night my heart is having a rest. Feel a bit more positive now. Thanks for all your support and kind words.
Hope you are doing ok,
Take care

So pleased that you've sort of made friends with your mask. The sleep will do you good, obviously, and reducing your CO2 levels will help you feel better during the day. Am really pleased for you!!
I'm doing ok thanks. Back to hospital tomorrow so might find out otherwise but am crossing my fingers.
Take care.

Just make sure that you don't use any petroleum based cream (eg vaseline) when using oxygen as it is a fire hazard. If you must use cream on your face then pick an aquious (water) based product.

I'm you glad for your reply that was next on my list to try thankyou
Every patient is meant to be warned when first prescribed Oxygen, to Never use petroleum or other flammable creams. The firm who supply the Oxygen are meant to repeat the warning. Regardless of whether the patient is using a masketch or a nasal canula.
Believe me you do not want to chance it. Having spent time in a burns unit. The constant odour will live with you. Please don't risk oil.

I use a cannula and use KY Jelly in my nose to keep it clear. It is recommended for oxygen users.
I use a face mask as part of my CPAP sleep apnea treatment. Having had years of experience of this, I have found that the type of face mask is the important consideration.
I have tried many different designs, but the one I use now is outstanding, in that it is comfortable, does not move during the night and leaves no dryness or marks on your skin. I cannot recommend this one highly enough. It is a Philips Amara View. Please try it....
Thank-you for your reply wear would I get this mask
