Hi, I've read about the association with swollen ankles and COPD. I think it's a kinda acceptable symptom.
Hi and welcome to the group if your breathing is still bad I would go back and see if you need more antibiotics and steroids. My ankles do swell sometimes . I just get told to sit with my feet up as much as I can. And you could mention about your ankles. And see what the gp says. I don't think it is something to worry about. Take care xx
Many of our members do get swollen ankles, See your GP as this is usually treated with water tablets.
Thanks for your replies I do take water tablets for my blood pressure, I have got an appointment with doc at 4pm for a spirometry test so I will see what he says
I take furosemide for swollen ankles. I also take a potassium tablet to make up for any loss due to use of a diuretic. Swollen legs and ankles can be a sign of heart failure. Don't hesitate to ask you doctor about this.
I get swollen feet and ankles, best to discuss with the GP as it can have many causes including the heat . welcome to the site,
I get swollen feet too, and my blood pressure is being treated with Indapamide water tablets and another tablet. The swollen ankles go down a bit overnight but never completely. Like #Nottobad, I try to sit with my feet up when I can.
I monitor my weight morning and evening to keep an eye on how much extra fluid I take on each day. High salt meals like instant soup, take-aways and micro-meals increase the extra water by a lb to a kg per day. So try a low salt diet to help reduce the extra fluid in your system.
Hi. Yes my ankles always swell now in the heat. Mind you I have heart problems too but think it is mainly heat related. Try and keep legs raised as much as possible. Best wishes
Hi ! I freaked out the first time my ankles swelled up! I am more accepting now, but want to add that my new exercise regime has cause the swelling to almost disappear much of the time...
Hi mojo welcome to the site I'm sure you will find it very helpful. I to have copd my feet and ankles are swollen at the minute, if you are in the uk i am sure this muggy weather is the cause of both your symptoms breathing difficulty and swollen ankles best to drink plenty of water. As you gave an appointment you should mention it to your GP. Hope you are soon feeling better
Love sue
Yes me, I didn't understand it, as for weeks my legs/ankles are of normal size and colour then for no apparent reason my legs go bright red from mid calf down and my feet swell. My previous doctor told me when I asked why?... your veins are knackered !! I am getting used to it now, I don't like it but it seems there is nothing I can do apart from sit with legs elevated when they are swollen.
My ankles tend to swell up in the winter but I think this is due to the twelve pairs of socks I wear to keep warm.
Hello Mojo 17, my name is Kim (2pray4us) I understand how you feel about the swollen ankles, I used to have that like really bad, I could never go anywhere because I couldn't get in my shoes. The trick is to stay off the salt and elevate your feet whenever possible! Take care.
When one of your docs tell you that ANY kind of exercise, particularly walking about, is good for you..., believe him/her....
My ankles/feet swell, I've noticed, when I spend long hours sitting around moping about my condition and never get up and do something.
Only speaking from my experience when I say, the road ain't easy, but it's not as difficult if you walk rather than crawl.
I get swollan Anckles feet my dr said water retenion but i was lucky has it goes
Yup but it's all part of COPD,don't worry.
Hi, I wear suport stockings, they do help quite a lot ,you can have them on persciption.
I have just had pulmonary hypertension diagnosed the treatment involves water tablets.I had a Heart attack 14 yrs ago after the symptoms had been ignored for 4 yrs with no referrals [ policy?} have only just got the oedema[ lipo- lymp oedema treated with water tablets when it can be a symptom of heart failure .Yet this area only have provision from a MACMILLAN Nurse on a remit? And main A&E 40 min away has no specialist testing directing .I have had to have procedures abroad.
Am having the GPs say don't deal with the pulmonary .Yet allowed A&E testing & hospital Provision to be taken away locally and their admins to block hospital access via Choose and Book and registrars .Surely this is a health & safety risk that Care Quality Commission should be seeing is attended to.
.Why are the Doctors not overseeing ? Where is their hippocratic oath?
As a former GP Panel Link member this lack of specialist direction is organised .I went to COPD meeting there were no patients or charity and they were planning to deal with it via the unqualified in medical diagnosis. .Then was not allowed to feedback.I know there is a problem as anaesthetists won't take risk so have to have a private dentist who is an anaesthetist to restore .Have to travel 100miles each way to London where lived up to 4 yrs ago.
I get very itchy ankles .
