Hi, I have been diagnosed with COPD.
I have been given two inhalers. Salbutamol 100mcg and Ipratropium 20mcg.
Why two? and should I use them at the same time?

Hi
Salbutomol is a reliever take as instructed or when short of breath.

Ipratropium is long acting take as instructed once a day.
gustavski welcome to the site I think stone sorted you out Di'awn stone nicely put as usual x
You really need to speak to your doctor or nurse practitioner and get advice about why and how to use them Good luck
Never be afraid to ask for information and help - it makes such a difference if you know how to use your inhalers properly. Wishing you the best.
It is dreadful that you were given medication with no instruction about how to use it or what it is for. It is appalling that you have to come here to find out what to do, this is unacceptable. When you see the doctor or nurse who gave you the inhalers you should make clear to them that you did not know what to do and how grateful you were for this site where you were given precise and helpful information.
Well this is how it happened. I was sent to our local hospital for a spirometry (have I spelled that right) test and after the test they said I should go back to see the doctor because I have COPD.
When I eventually got to see the doctor she explained that there is no cure for COPD and that I will very soon kick the bucket.
No, I'm kidding. What she did say was that I would receive two inhalers and I got a prescription to take to the pharmacy.
Oy weh ist mir.

Good grief gustavski , my jaw just dropped as I read that. How dare she say you'll soon kick the bucket! I thought the GPs at my surgery were bad but that is just awful
eh... I was joking. Did I not make that plain? silly me.
That was way out of order and the doctor should be reported for being so' I was told I have stage 2 copd at the start of August. Was told all about it and given the information sheets. Yes the sheets did tell me it would more than likely kill me but if we look after our health and do not let any flares take hold we have many more years in front of us. My docs & nurses are very supportive and they explained how and when to use the inhalers plus they gave me the flare up kit and wrote down what to do with it.
Hi gustavski welcome to the forum.
Loved your comment about Doctor saying you will very soon kick the bucket. That's the sort of thing I would say and had me in stitches.ππππ just as well you were kidding. ππ
At least my Consultant was a bit more sensitive. She said "you'll just keep going downhill and you've got about 2 years". I wouldn't have minded but I'd taken my wife with me to show her what a good job she was doing for me. I was more concerned about how Wifey took the news to worry about the death sentence I'd just been given. π³π¬
John (not kidding) ππππ
Sorry I did not read the post properly either, me and my big sore mouth.π€
Just to add, there are a variety of 'How to' videos on YouTube, which can help you get it right as each inhaler has a different technique.
Would you happen to know what I ask for on YouTube to get the info.
Btw this is just a general question but am I on the right COPD site?
I see one is talking about animal eyes and another about trifles.
Really no offence I just want to know if I am at the right community.
To continue or is this like a general community site where anything goes, well almost anything. I would be happy to join in the merriment.

If you've got COPD you are on the right site. We are the Number 1 Forum for Lung problems but we don't let that rule our lives. We talk about all sorts including animals and trifles and anything else of interest.
I'm sure you will enjoy yourself here and make some new friends as well.
Have a happy day.π
This is the British Lung Foundation community so it is obviously focused on lung disease but as our members are defined by more than their illness the site has evolved to be what it needs to be. As to what is allowed, please read the community guidelines here:

I am quite new to these sites I usually avoid them as I would the Ebola Virus.
But ( always be wary of the But ) seeing as I have been diagnosed with something I had never even heard of I thought that I might hear something to my advantage, and I already have.
I might add i do not intend to disrupt your community.
You say 'no politics' that is good enough for me. I take it the same goes for discussions about religion nicht wahr.
But and hear it comes again. may I remind you of the words of Voltaire 'I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it'.
