CRAMP!!!

The answer to getting relief f rom cramp which I used to suffer from too, until a friend told me to drink half a tumbler of Tonic Water each day. I suffer most at night so I drink the tonic water circa 8pm each day and it works. I no longer have the cramp pains. Someone told me it's the quinine that makes the cramps go away. Skipson

That's right. Works a treat 😃

Thankyou very much for the tip - I have just now amended my grocery order with Morrisons and added more tonics. It will be great if it works for me:-)

Hi Jennifer, I too used to have night cramps but thanks to the tonic water I suffer no more (it must contain quinine, any make will do, just read the label) I used to buy the expensive Shzz one but I have found my local Lydl low calorie tonic works just as well. Take care Maximonkey

I tried it last night...no cramp in my feet!!!! Thankyou Mximonkey so very very much. Didn't add any gin or vodka either:-)

Hi Jennifer, so glad to help. Sorry about no gin or vodka, but you cannot have it all. Bye Maximonkey

Why?

Sorry Jennifer, as our mums would have said "life's not like that". Some may seem to have it all, but I doubt it myself. Take care. Maximonkey

Thank you for this post. I've been suffering for 2 years with feet/hand cramps. I had no idea this was anyway connected to COPD. I will try the tonic water!!! Quinine is an old fashioned remedy for so many things!!! Cheers!!!! Xx

I believe it's steroids in our medication - I don't have COPD but enough in inhalers high dose to cripple my toes with cramp. It ceases when I reduce inhalers in summer.

O Peege! Duh! Thanks x

Need to be a little cautious if taking warfarin or any blood thinner though.even the small amount of quinine in tonic water can be a problem for some

in reply to

Yes you are right. Warfaring and tonic water do it go well together according to my friend but as I was not on warfarin it was wonderful for me. Skipson

I was told long ago to take an asprin a day - yes it helps with stopping cramp but it can upset your stomach and also if you are on warfrin....... tonic water (+ gin) is a much better suggestion!

I've found that magnesium does away with my leg/foot cramps which drove me to distraction. May be a bit cheaper than the water.

in reply toDmactds

Yes, although I take half a tumbler of tonic water each day to be free of cramps, I was told last week too that magnesium is good as well. I was also told, if you are on Warfarin, to put a little barley water with your tonic water to fend off any side effects. I am definitely going to try magnesium as well. Thanks for that extra tip Dmactds. regards Skipson

Hi I was told to get about 5 to 8 wine corks put them in cloth bag and leave them in the bed. I used to have bad cramp then every night and when I woke up. It all stopped in a few days and years later I still have them in my bed and don't have to jump out of bed to massage my legs. It sounds stupid BUT it does work.

Hi Skipson, yes it is the quinine which works on the cramps. You can buy any make, it must contain quinine though, so read the label. Take care. Maximonkey

Tonic water can have a lot of sugar in to counter the bitter taste of the quinine, so check the label if you need to monitor your weight or sugar intake.
