Do I qualify - been quite all evening transferring "stuff" form my dying Microsoft Surface to a shiny new one (under warranty!) whilst messing with my new phone and smartwatch all paid for from the no-smoking pot!

Did I REALLY spend that much on the weeds???

Yup! It's really surprising how much we did spend waste/burn on those weeds- still, not anymore!

Hum, reason for delay in replying ... Hooked up a big hard drive, copied all the files over (as advised by Microsoft), deleted everything and started booting up the replacement ... only the backup won't reinstall!

So now I've got to begin again! gggrrrr

Nothing really lost because I have (good) backups of just about everything, just takes time!

Oh well, keeps me busy!

Can you make a partition for the data on your hard drive? Also did you reformat the drive you deleted the other data from?

If you like, I will ask my husband he has been working with computers since before Windows was invented.

Much appreciated but I've almost completed the work - The "old" faulty  ... well, new last November), Microsoft Surface is currently winging it's way back to Germany (with a clean HDD) and I've less than an hour to finish off reinstalling everything, Office is on, Chrome, etc, etc. AND at the same time setting up a smart watch & new smart phone, huh, who says only women can multi-task

Sorry, I blame Clive Sinclair, ZX80, ZX81, Dragon 32, Amstrad 1512DD and the list goes on! No idea what I'm doing really but I do fool the bosses so they think I actually have some knowledge!! (Just goes to prove that sometimes you CAN fool all the bosses all the time!

Seriously, thank you very much for the very kind offer - most would turn the other way - you are clearly a very nice person.

My husband said all you need do is reformat the drive on the computer you want to upload the backup to. He used to be a Training Officer, among other things.  

He also used to test new software before it was installed on the rest of the computers. IBM, Cybervision, Quark and others.

You explained it better than me Jennifer! I think it could be done in the MS paint programme which is standard on Windows.

It's the only way I could do it Christine, with either PSP x or V or Photoshop (which I am rubbish at using because I do not read instructions!).  I've never used MS Paint.
