Hi ,idont no weather or not as to start taking my rescue pack of antibiotics, I dont seem to have infection as my mucus seems clear ,trouble is I'm producing more mucus ,and I'm more breathless than usual ,im wondering if it is inflamation ,also I'm thinking if we can take antibiotics for inflamation ,I would be pleased to hear what others think

if your mucus is clear you don't have an infection. if you have been given a rescue pack for home you should have also been given information printed on when and how to take it. If you don't I would advise a telephone conversation with your doctor and ask if you can have a copy of the guidelines when to use your rescue pack.

anti biotics are not anti inflammatory, again I suggest you have a telephone appointment / conversation with your doctor.

Thank you Bkin ,I think I may need the dreaded prednisalone

hopefully not but see what the doc says. My respiratory nurse says to increase inhaler meds first see if that works but that is what I have been advised, you would need to check what your doc what he/she advises for you. Good Luck

I’m the same I rang the respiratory nurse and she advised to start the steroids if the mucus was clear when I told her I was coughing and have a sore throat and short of breath she seemed unconcerned when I said I had no temperature

Ive no temperature either, just feeling unwell coughing more ,I think I'll start taking steroids this morning ,I hate the though of it as I get dreadful side effects from six so I'm going to try four, would be afraid to get the caronavirus on top of the way I'm feeling

When my mucus increases, which for me is often from sinuses, it drips into my chest and clogs up the transfer of oxygen into bloodstream. I find my chest gets tighter and I cough more. My mucus is mainly white froth. I find that if I can declog my chest, I’m then ok. Sometimes if I go for a walk, everything loosens up and I cough up loads of mucus. More generally I concentrate on the active breathing cycle ( look on you tube for demonstrations, but your nurses should have shown you. ) I use sterimar ( a salt and water spray up my nose) to loosen mucus. For me, it works. Once I have cleared my chest, I’m back to ok. I have a finger monitor and my oxygen levels go up.

I have had Sarcoidosis for 3 years and at first thought I was getting infections. My sputum samples showed clear. The doc kept giving me antibiotics and steroids. Then I found 5 days after the steroids finished I was bad again. After about 6 different antibiotics with steroids and a stay in hospital for intravenous antibiotics, because they thought a pseudonoma was hiding in my lungs, I again after 5 days began with the more breathlessness. Eventually the doc and I realised I was suffering with steroid withdrawal side effects. Since then I have been cutting down steroids very slowly and concentrate a lot on clearing chest. I was on antibiotics and steroids from June to September. Since September no antibiotics and cutting down steroids ( now2mg a day)

We are all different and have to find what is right for us. It would be worth making sure your chest was cleared, if you can.

Good luck

Hi Alice, I have exactly the same symptoms. I have been very close in starting my rescue pack but not yet. I wondered if the Spring pollen is the cause. I don't feel any worse than usual, just more Sputem, (white and frothy) coughing and short of breath. It doesn't feel like an infection.

Hope things get better soon for both of us.
