I get this. If I need to stop coughing I use a cough pastille or take covonia. Most of the time though the cough is productive so don't want to stop that.
I just getting over the sane problem myself. It got so bad that I had breathing problems. I went to the my Doctor who after a quick look at my throat explained that I had a swollen and extended Uvula ( the fleshy extension at the back of the soft palate which hangs above the throat. ). He prescribed Benzydamine Oromucosal Spray which I use every 90 minutes. I have been using it for 5 days and I can hardly feel anything so hopefully I will be back to normal in a couple of days.
I think it is definitely worth getting checked out by your Doctor now, because Iin hindsight I should have gone to mine sooner.
Agree with Ruby, Wendy, quite possible it could be acid reflux. All those symptoms suggest it, and chewing gum is known to relieve it. Suggest it to your doctor. Hope you get sorted and it sounds horrid.
Yep acid reflux, common with breathing problems. While waiting for Drs appointemt, no eating after 6pm, avoid coffee, alcohol, high acid foods, especially in the evening; take a ranitidine (OTC) hour after food and before bed with a half glass (or more) of water.
Dr will prescribe PPI (Omeprazole, or the like) maybe 2 a day at first taper back to one.
Take it seriously - it can do lasting damage.
PS Gargle with hot salt water if getting build up of mucous in throat.
