You might remember I was on here before regarding results from a CT and having continuous chest infections since October. Well I got hit with another chest infection in March and it all started with a sore throat. Was prescribed antibiotics over the phone by my GP, and then eventually steroids as I didn't improve. Finished another course of antibiotics last week, they were for 10 days, 4 a day as my GP finally checked my throat. Thing is, throat is still red and very sore, glands are very painful at times especially my left one. Going on over 40 days, just wondering if anyone has experienced anything like this...
Good news is I finally got a specialist appointment for end of April, fingers crossed he can sort my asthma and my flare ups.

Hi Mellypad, well I didn't had this long but I often had infection with my Glands in the past. At the end because it was to much that I have agreed to take them out, and it stopped. I still get a sore throat but not as bad.
Sounds very painful and uncomfortable for this long, so to hear that it staying this long with you. What did your doctor say that it is this long? Must be a bad infection that's not clearing up, hope you got a different antibiotics?
And happy to hear that you got the appointment for your asthma. Congratulations 🎉👏🎉
Hope that you feeling soon better again and that your throat pain will go away. Best wishes 😃🌹😃🌹😃🍀🍀🍀
In January I had a sore throat and chest infection. Amoxicillin did not touch it and I then had a ten day course of Doxycycline which seemed to work. Sadly within a week the symptoms appeared again. I rang 111 who give me another course of Doxycycline. My Daughter also had throat problems at the same time which also lingered for weeks. Normally I use antibiotics once a year but this year I spent most of January and February on them. My daughter is asthmatic and you could see how much her glands were swollen. Thankfully whatever is was as now gone.
I have the same problem for the last 35 days now, Amoxicillin did nothing , then Doxycycline appeared to make me better but did not last , then clarithomycine which has not cured my chest infection or sore throat either, today I visit the doctor again , my ingual hernia operation has been postponed because of having antibiotics and Prednisolone for so long.
I used to have similar ongoing for several years. Its taken a while to rebuild my immune system although I still have my little armoury to hand at the first sign of a sore throat or snuffle because if left they'd undoubtedly travel quickly to my airways.For throat, a fine spray or two of Corvonia Throat Spray (like last night when I woke with very sore one). For 1st sign of a snuffle &/or swollen glands I drink a lass of effervescent vitamin c, perhaps a couple each day until over it. I take loads of vitamins to keep immunity tip top, stick to healthy diet and weight.
Because of my propensity to chest infections (asthmatic) I'm allowed winter antibiotics. Azithromycin 250mgs on 3 days out of 7 per week.
Hope this helps, every infection and course of abs further depletes your immune system. Good luck, Peege
Peege, thank you for your response. Yes I think I am a bit run down at the moment, I've never had so many antibiotics or steroids' s in the last 6 months. I have bought some vitamin C with Zinc, and Vitamin D so starting on those. This just seems to be taking it time to shift... I ran my local chemist and he suggested pain relief for next few days and paracetamol and see how I am. I too was on the Azithromycin 2 years ago think I may need to go back on them, asthmatic too, which is very uncontrolled.. You think with less contact with people we would be better not sicker..
I'm not a medic but I'd hazard a guess that its your immune system - or lack of - that's letting you down. You've nothing left to tackle the tiniest bug. P
I've made an appointment to see my doctor in the morning, I've asked her to do a swab and some bloods, hopefully I might get some answer to the correct course of treatment. Thank you for your response.
Hi Mellypad
I wonder if you have tried gargling with salt water for your throat, it may help;
Hi Bkin, I do on and off might try it again. I think it will just take time to run it's course. Least my specialist will see me in two weeks if I'm still sick with it. I actually have a lot of throat infections as a child, but haven't had one in years. A horrible mouth ulcer has appeared too. had eczema on my foot for the first time ever last summer too and that took months to clear up
Its worth inhaling steam few times a day and also gargling frequently. Perhaps rest yr voice too. I find when airways are tight,throat feels constricted + sore tooDo u have allergies? If so above will help.if not,I'd try Oct antihistamine,to see if helps.have u been tested for glandular fever?
