Good on you. There is a 'Quit' site on here. If you go under my communities at the top then click on browse other communities then type in Quit it will come up. x
Thanks Sally56....I will try my very best...not going to be easy..as I have smoked for 40 years....and I do enjoy a ciggy......but we cannot have everything in life......my life versus cig.....it's a no brainer....xx
happy to see you on the site everyone is very helpful. I was smoking for 46 yrs i found it very easy with Champix, so did my daughter the year after. So good luck with that. My emphysema (COPD) is mild also,
Hello and welcome Rocky. I used to smoke for 40 years. I got angina 4 years ago and blamed it on the rollups. I had one more and stopped there and then. No patches, nothing.
I now have very severe emphysema Stage 4.
If you stop now you wont ever get this bad. If you don't, you'll probably end up
like me or even worse.
Sorry to be blunt but the choice is yours.
On a good note. We'll all give you the best encouragedment we can. Good luck !
I smoked for 50 years gave up the middle of may this year, went cold turkey as I got fed up waiting for the quit smoking people to get in touch with me I smoked 20 a day, and I can honestly say I don't miss them at all, and my lungs feel a lot better for it. So I'm sure you will be able to do this good.luck
Hi Rockie, Welcome, giving up smoking can feel hard, i think many of us went through this. I didn't suceed at my first attempt but I don't smoke now and do not miss it. Good luck with the challenge, people here will be supporting you. Take Care Margaret x
I was in the same position as you last December. Mild to moderate COPD and smoker for 40 years +. Had my last cigarette on New Years eve and haven't smoked since.
It hasn't been easy believe me but the knowing that giving up cigarettes is the single most postive thing I can do has spurred me on. Plus the fact that the smokers cough which seemed to be a permanent part of my life has gone. That is such a bonus.
You can do it. My other half managed to do this over 30 years ago at a very stressful time in his life. He has not got away with the smoking as has bronchiectasis but the sooner you give up the better you will be. Good Luck.
Good luck, I gave up smoking 15 years ago with the help of Champix and apart from feeling rather weird when I had no withdrawal symptoms (I kept waiting for a craving for a ciggie and nothing happened) all went well.
My stress time for wanting a cigarette was after I had got home from work, I would chain smoke at least four. So after I finished the Champix I did have an occasional twinge, I had a small dab of sweet chilly sauce in a bowl and would pop a bit on my tongue and that was enough to take my mind off of things it only lasted for a couple of weeks and since then never a twinge.
I used Champix didn't think they would work still continued to smoke then about 8 days in I lit up a cig and didn't enjoy it.
Day 14 got up my legs like jelly went back to bed and haven't smoked since that was 11 years ago. Make sure you continue to take them after giving up I took my tablets at night that way you sleep through the side effects, good luck
Thankyou for all of your support....what a lovely bunch you all are....just a bit worried about the side effects with the champix.....but I'm sure I will survive...
