Spirio Test

I have just asked for a copy of my wife's breathing test which we cannot make head or tail of. Here goes

MRC Breathlessness scale: grade 2

Forced expired volume in one second/vcr= 77.8 L

FEV1/FVC = 102%

Forced expired volume in one second + 1.75 L

Any explanation will be appreciated.

Hi brillard, give Blf line a call on Monday, the nurse told me I was servers, the dr said something completely different, ie not as bad, has your wife just been diagnosed ? It can be a very scary time, but there are people on here who have been at sever stage for years, try not to worry x x x

From the NHS Evidence site:

cks.nhs.uk/chronic_obstruct...

Medical Research Council (MRC) dyspnoea scale.

Grade Level of activity

1 Not troubled by breathlessness except during strenuous exercise

2 Short of breath when hurrying or walking up a slight hill

3 Walks slower than contemporaries on the level because of breathlessness, or

has to stop for breath when walking at own pace

4 Stops for breath after walking about 100 m or after a few minutes on the level

5 Too breathless to leave the house, or breathless when dressing or undressing

Data from: [National Clinical Guideline Centre, 2010]

That in itself should be some reassurance, but please have a chat with the BLF Helpline when they are open again next week, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm on 03000 030 555. They have trained staff and nurses who can advise what the numbers mean.

The DWP give some details that could act as guidelines, but please bear in mind that everyone is different - what may be average for one person could be good for another. Here's the link: dwp.gov.uk/publications/spe...

I have a feeling you have given an incorrect figure ?-

> Forced expired volume in one second/vcr= 77.8 L

77.8L in one second would be very impressive, she could get a job inflating balloons for wedding receptions with that output ;)

Without wanting to give definitive advice, as I'm not a medical professional, it's not looking too bad - but please call the helpline for a full explanation.

Thank you for taking the trouble to reply very helpful, much appreciated.I will telephone the nurse on Monday.

Hi

Those results on their own mean very little without knowing a bit more about your wife. So I would strongly suggest you call the BLF helpline on Monday and speak to one of the nurses - 03000 030 555. Don't read anything else on the Internet until after you call.

Thanks

Mark
