Hello.a newbe here..husband came back from a weeks holiday in Portugal with Legionaires Disease and pneumonia.Last night he was put on a venilllater, which has really scared me..has anyone else had experience of this?

That sounds terrible. Did he have any lung problems before? Not had any personal experience but there are plenty on here who have been on ventilators - hopefully one will be along to offer you some reassurance. Hope he has a speedy recovery.

Hi henacre, I was put on a ventilator and sedated for a month after a sudden onset double Pneumonia. I was a fit 51 year old at the time which helped me get through it, I think it was harder for my wife and family at the time because I was out of it and having the most amazing dreams.

Stay positive, he's in the right place now where they can keep control of the situation.

I came back from Spain and ended up in ICU for 32 days with lung failure and empymea. I flew with Thomson who do not purge their air on short haul flights I found out.

Hope your hubby has a quick recovery.

Thanks for that..looks like recovery will be very slow but we are hopeful. T's problem could be caught from the plane flight out ,or air con at the resort.

Thank you,flibberti.T's friend also has Legionaires and less severe pneumonia..so prob the air con or poolside shower! Next holiday(hopefully) will just be 10 miles down the road!
