Vitamin D: I have just been told I am... - Lung Conditions C...
Vitamin D
I have heard that it can. Good luck hope you feel better soon
Yes,I have just been diagnosed with low VitD,Dr agreed the tiredness the aches and pain all have a link to this problem,I only have to be up about 90 mins and I just want to go back to sleep, have been put on a supplement today for 12 weeks to see how I feel,so hope that in a couple of months I will feel much better.
Hi Kay1400,
I too have recently been diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency. I am 63 and have just started taking vitamin D tablets a couple of weeks ago. My GP did tell me that I would now have to take them indefinitely.
At the moment I can't honestly say that I don't feel any more, or any less tired, I feel the same since I started taking them.
I have COPD and I was also told in the past few months that my kidneys are not working as they should. I just wonder what they are going to find next. Good luck.
It might be worth asking your GP if all is well with your kidneys and if they are functioning fully. Also, your Dr should be going back to them and asking why they had classed the result that they did if the readings were O.K.
Funny you should say that ! I am taking vitamin D prescribed by my Doctor for that very reason. It's a short few weeks course.
Hi I am 55 and have Emphysema.I was diagnosed with Vitamin D difficency in February now I dose up every two weeks indefinitely. Can't say I feel anymore tired than usual. Hope this helps.
Oh yes it can, about a year ago I went to the doctor absolutely exhausted I had decided that something serious was wrong! (I care for my husband who has COPD so little time for me!) - the blood test came back as only just deficient but within two weeks of taking a supplement I had improved so much. I could not believe it. xxx
I am not allowed sunshine on my skin, even in winter and so I am on vitamin D tablets all the time. I can't say it has ever effected me with regards tiredness one way or the other. If you are low on vitamin D, speak to your doctor as to take vitamin C on its own is just wasting time and money. The body cannot absorb vitamin C without also being provided with Calcium at the same time....hence the prescription tablets have calcium and vit D.
My prescription does not contain Calcium just Vitamin D3, pharmacist said no need for calcium if you have a normal intake of dietary calcium.
For tiredness also consider low thyroid (Hypothyroidism) or B12 deficiency. low Iron and low Ferritin (stored iron.)
Have you had any other bloods done recently K1400 ? If so what were the results and their ranges ?
Ask your Doctors Surgery for a printout of all your recent bloods to see if some are showing up as Low 'Within Range'
Thyroid and B12 (and some other bloods) often gets dismissed/missed by Doctors if your bloods results are showing 'within range,' yet you can be quite poorly if your bloods are 'low' within range, but Doctors will just say you are OK/fine.
Hi Kay, I too have emphysema and bronchiectasis in a nutshell severe cold also had radiotherapy for small lung tumour , I am 59 years old after having radio a couple of years ago a few months after I was so tired lethargic and breathless all the time it was found after a blood test I was very low in vit d so was prescribed it for 3 months I felt so much better, then after a few more months I read something on this site about vit a and d helping people with our problem so I added vit a to my daily routine too and I can tell you I feel a hell of a lot better certainly not as tired and not as breathless so ..? I can only tell you what my experience has been, the only problem it hasn't solved is the amount of mucus I vomit every day if it wasn't for that I'd be or feel 100% better, talk to your doctor and tell him what you have learned I did, good luck xx carol
I am following MyCOPD Team on FB and this is it's headline..
Vitamin D Improves COPD Exacerbations in Adult Patients. I have also just been prescribed Vitamin D by the Doctors out of the blue and via a phone call from the Pharmacy at the Doctors. I have yet to get the chance to discuss the ins and outs but having read through the paperwork, (I need to do so again) I had thought it was due to the medication we are on and something to do with the Bones. As I say I really need to read the paperwork again to be clear and concise.
Vitamin D3 (considered a hormone by many) made me put on 9 lbs in weight and did nothing for my energy levels. Have been taking it for 3 months as my blood level, before, was 21 - should be over 50! However, although my Vit D are levels now 'normal' - I hate feeling so fat and lumpy - especially as my energy levels have not improved at all so I am stopping using it. Nutritionists say that the best way to get Vit D3 is to spend 30 minutes a day in the sun without sun protection - divide that into two 15 minute sessions if you can. You obviously need to expose your arms and legs to the sun for the body to absorb the suns rays.
Good luck and best wishes
