I am new to this, so here goes. I have been suffering with breathlessness, and a cough for about six months. My chest x-Ray said I have copd my lung function test and scan are norma, my go has given me a inhaler. Feeling very confused, as my GP doesn't seem to know what's going on. Has any one else experienced this?

Hi 50rid
Can you tell me what scan you have had. If it was a CT scan and it was normal, I am pretty sure you don't have emphysema. GPs can get it very wrong as I can bear testimony to. Why not have a chat with one of the nurses at BLF. They are very knowledgeable and kind.
Hello 50rid, perhaps whatever is causing you to be breathless is so mild it is not showing up on the x-ray. There is a lot you can do to help yourself. I don't know if you smoke or not but if you stop and give yourself some kind of fitness regime that could help a lot.Exercise and Nutrition most important...😃
Could you have a 'Spirometry' test to get your lung function levels? They can do these tests in your local doctors, it would shed some light on why you are so breathless. Your new inhaler may take a little time before you feel the benefit.
Good luck, huff x
Hi it sounds like you have very mild copd. When I was diagnosed with mild I was given 3 inhalers, symbicort to open the airways and later Spiriva and also ventolin to be used as and when breathlessness occurs.
You should get an annual review by a copd nurse but I think you should go back to the doctors and get more information. Ringing the nurses on BLF is great advice so do that too. x
I have seen my GP today, he his referring me back to my heart specialist. I had stents put in my heart, last November. The breathlessness has progressively got worse, since they put the stent in. That's why they sent me for a chest X-Ray, which my GP said the results showed I had copd, even though I have never smoked. However I have worked in a public house for 15 years, when smoking was allowed. Therefor my GP thought I had copd due to passive smoking. I have since had a lung function test, and a ct scan, that were both normal. "So I am feeling very confused" X
Hi when I said go back to the GP I meant that if you are feeling confused and want explanations they are the best people to ask. x
Don't know if I am doing this right x
