Enlarged Heart ?
Hi Imelda, my hubby Pete has an enlarged heart and it has also been called "stiff" by the cardio specialist at the Royal Brompton. He has breathlessness and now takes water tablets for ankle, calf swelling. He does have sarcoidosis which is now in his heart and also COPD. The only real treatment Pete has are the two water tablets and blood pressure medication. He did have a heart attack in 2007 so is on statins and has 3 stents. Oh, I forgot to mention aspirin which Pete takes daily.
I hope that helps and do get in touch with your doctor about any treatment that can be offered to you. Wishing you well. xxxxx
Hi Imelda. That's my daughter's second name. I think it's lovely. I digress. I have an enlarged heart and Atrial Fibrillation. I take water tablets Ramipril 2.5 mg & Bisoprolol 7.5mg Dabigatran (Anticoagulant) I see the cardiac nurse specialist at my GP surgery annually & my GP if the SOB increases but do remember everybody is different so chat to your GP Cardiologist is specialist nurse. I also have COPD but lead a fairly normal life. I also find the people on this site really supportive, knowledgeable, and helpful. Good luck & best wishes Nan
Thanks sassy59 for reply I am on water tablets which have been increased to 2 a day and my thyroxine has been reduced also I am on warfarin and BP medication so it seems like they are treating it. As well as that the respiratory Nurse says to. Make sure to keep my oxygen up that also is part of treatment. Just another illness to add on to the list. But it does help so much to be able to talk on this forum about it.
Hello Imelda, l too have your symptoms of swollen feet, ankles and lower legs. My heart is severely dialated as a result of my pulmonaty hypertension and asd (hole in the heart). I too suffer with sob sometimes quite badly, which can be frightening. I am on 40 mg of furosemide daily with instructions to increase to total of 60mg if swelling still noticeable after 40mg dose has been taken. I suffer with terrible aching pains when swelling is bad and it will often wake me during the night. I am also advised to not over do my daily fluid intake, hope this helps, take care, lynda x
You need to ask your cardio consultant why u have enlarged heart. Heart conditions can cause it. Af causes enlarged atria. There is usually an underlying conditon.that cause it. Echos can drtermine what issues are present.
Take care. Get the info u need from your consultants. Dont get fobbed off. You can make a difference with your knowledge.
Thanks for advice I will be seeing my respiratory Dr on 20 May so will have my list of questions to ask him. Many Thanks to all.
