Hoping someone with similar problem can help please.
For the last 2months I've developed Oedema, I had ECG on Thursday to see if it were heart related to be told by Dr everything looked normal. I'm wondering if it could be due to me taking Mirtazapine for the same length of time. My left leg is swollen & although my right leg isn't my foot looks like it could be due to a circulation problem as it's a purple colour. I've been taking Furosemide to try to get rid of excess fluid but it isn't working. Has anyone else had this problem & could perhaps tell me what has worked for them. I'm 77 yrs old, not overweight but can't exercise much due to so breathlessness with COPD.

Hi Jansy. Mirtazapine can cause swelling in extremities but yours seems to go beyond that. Does it go down overnight when you are in bed? If so, it may be that a different diuretic might help. If not, it could be a sign of a vascular problem. Either way, I think that you would be as well to get another GP consult.
I agree with the other replies. Go see the doc again, there are other diuretics like spironolactone that are available but the doc will know what is best for you.
I have the same symptoms and have been taken off Furosemide and given Bumetanide which after 2 weeks seems to be working but then the weather has gone cooler and I have been taken into Hospital again with suspected angina attack. I am 74 COPD Emphysema and 2 heart attacks 4 stents, I did a stint of 19 days on a ventilator in coma 6 years ago when I contracted Viral pneumonia. Chat to your GP about using Bumetanide.
Me too Jansy! I went into Hospital with Lung related problems and came out with Oedema. Left leg like you. I have no heart problems n not overweight, but, they say mine is related to Liver Scarring. As a none drinker this was a shock. Could be caused by taking too many Steroids for Lung disease they say. 🤷 Painful though, isn't it?
I have COPD DeeBee, & have always thought my breathlessness was because of that, but since having problems with Oedema it's made me wonder if its heart related. I had the Echocardiogram 2 days ago so am waiting to see if it is the heart, failing that it's back to square 1. My leg isn't painful, just unsightly with the swelling. The Duiretics I'm taking has reduced the swelling & helps by putting my feet up when I can. It's not easy getting a Dr's appointment these days, trouble is if it is serious the longer we wait could be serious. Will let you know when I hear the result of the Echocardiogram. Take care. I live in the UK.
