I have been involved in finding end of life care for relatives and can honestly say that in Sheffield care ranges from poor to excellent
the excellent was at a Nursing Home and the local Hospice
the poorest was at one I would not have sent my worst enemy to
I'll believe it when I see it too! It really is disgraceful the way many people don't even have a choice. its about compassion and respect and dignity, makes me cry when I hear how some are treated. huffxxx
I thought the same when I read that.
Seems like another postcode lottery to me. Terrible and needs to change now.
My father spent the last few weeks of his life in a hospital being shuttled from county hospital to another who kept rejecting him because of his illness and finally sent him back to the hospital. We were all very upset by it. No palliative care at all
My mother spent her last days in a care home, again with no palliative care at all. The staff were good but they did things like try and feed her faggots! For goodness sake you don't feed a dying person faggots do you?
I hope I have a better death than both of them. x
I agree with all the comments on this subject, and speaking from experience end of life care is very hit and miss, especially if you want your last days at home. So like others I will believe it when I see it. Although I have to say there are a few more hospices available now. I think outreach care is more important till the very final days.
