A Bit About Himself...

Now Himself and I have been married for donkey's years...he can be an awkward old so and so when he chooses, but he's mostly alright...except for his selective deafness. I whisper something to my step-daughter when she's over for a holiday about making an apple dumpling for the pudding and Himself can hear that from a hundred paces away...no problem. If I say the dog is at the door and wants to be let out when we're in the same room and he's reading the newspaper? Forget it...I heave myself to my feet dragging oxygen tubing behind me and he looks up sort of startled...wassamatter...I point at dog and he says...why didn't you tell me!

And he taps stuff. In the supermarket...tap tap on the displays of biscuits...tap tap on the frozen food displays...I glare at him and say, under my breath...will you ever stop with the tapping and he says...what tapping?

When he goes shopping on his own he'll come back and announce he met 'that woman with blond hair'...what's her name I ask...dunno he says...but she asked after you and so I told her you were ok...

He shouts on the telephone...loudly. You could hear him yourself, if you had your windows open, honestly you could...

When it comes near to suppertime he'll happily cook pork chops 'cos he can put them in the oven...I suggest he does his own liver and bacon and he suddenly finds something terribly urgent to do outside...so there I am smothering disgusting bits of bloody liver in flour and grilling dead pig while he's in the barn talking to the donkeys...

And he puts the potatoes on to boil before he's thought about what part of a dead animal he's going to be eating tonight.

He asks me about a crossword clue...what's a country with a capital city beginning with 'p' and I think about it and reel off the ones which come to mind and then he says...oh...hang on, I have one wrong...it isn't a 'p' it's an 'e'...I stick my nose back into the book I'm reading and let him sort it out...

Himself has five children from his first marriage and grandchildren and a few great grand children...who remembers who is married and when their birthdays are and who is good at sport and who is a bit of a prat? He doesn't...but I do.

But he does look after me you know...he might be a bit befuddled, but I do love him to bits.

just love your tales of the old country I get immersed in them and feel as though I have never left just one thing I want to ask with my tongue hanging out does he make good Poi-tin? both grandma and great grandma were good at it sat there with the jug shawls flat caps and clay pipes strewth what they smoke I still do not know to this day but it ponged and as you quite rightfully say bare feet (watch the bare feet possums as they play)

Ah we do really....!

That made me smile, your hubby is so similar to mine. He is 74 now and is very deaf but won't have a hearing test so I have to go with him to any appointments. He has just had a 2nd cataract operation and has drops to put in his eye 4times a day. Who is putting them in ? Me of course. When I had my cateract done I put my own in. He does have arthritis but sits in his chair too long, if someone knocks at the door and I am out of the room he will shout do you want me to get that? By the time I get in the room it is too late. I know he worries about me and when I get in the car after my daily walkabout and breathless he will ask if I am OK.It usualycauses me to have a coughing fit trying to answer him. When he cooks his own breakfast he will start to cook his egg at the same time his bacon goes under the grill, as he hasn't learned yet that you don't have to cook at maximum heat resulting in a very messy frying pan. Won't go into his lack of DIY skills but we are still rubbing along after 53 years.

Believe me, Vashti, you need to appreciate your husband just for being there with you. Believe me, it aint funny when they are in hosp. But then I do understand what you saying.Brian had the habit of talking about the next meal, when he was eating the present meal.

I'm sorry if you thought I was being really serious...it was intended to be a light-hearted article...we do love each other very much and I'm probably just as annoying in different ways.
