He was diagnosed with doggy alzheimers only just last week .. it started about 6 weeks ago he started doing lots of random things that was not him ...
vet check last week gave us the news i think that we already feared ..
We will do our upmost to help him in every way we can possible hes still very much our best friend and feeling a little broken at the news ..
He will enjoy his life and walks as thats where hes most happy running in the woods and rivers all be it he goes in a different direction from everyone else now as he loses track ...so just keeping you all in the loop as i know theres lots of you have grown very fond of our heartbreaker ππ§‘
Awww im really sorry to hear that about your cat π..life is absolutely rotten sometimes..
Im sure he will be here for a while longer ... the daft bugger fell of the bed last night he was dreaming and kicking so hard down he went ... this was at 4am i ran and flicked the light on scooped him up checked him over and popped him back to bed and stayed awake until gone 6 am just watching him sleep ... wishing you well π·
My boy (cat) also recently fell off the bed. Must be something in the water!! He had taken to sleeping on edge of bed and I had warned him several times he would fall off, when one night he did!! ππΏ
Best, best wishes to lovely Stan and big meaty bones for him π
Our cat was the same Oshgosh. She had thyroid problems, kidney problems and dementia. We had to let her go aged 19 but have wonderful memories. Bless you. Xxxπ
Thankyou so much things will change things as time progresses ..
Where he fell off the bed last night i have ordered pillows of amazon to pop round the bed so at least hes landing softly if it happens again ...my floors are solid even with carpets and rugs π
Thatβs such sad news Bb9 but Stan is still a gorgeous boy no matter what. Itβs hard to get news like that but heβs with amazing people who will ensure he lives his best life.
Sending lots of love and hugs. ππ€β€οΈ Xxxx
Poor Stanley but he will still have a good life with you. He's a gorgeous little fella, God bless you and Stanley. Have a good night and take care π Bernadette and Jack π xxxxxxx π»π»π
Oh Bb Iβm so sorry to hear about poor Stan. My first dog, Bert, developed dementia, so I know what itβs like. All I can say is heβs in the best possible place because I know you will do everything you possibly can for him. He couldnβt be in a more loving home xx
Oh dear, I am heartbroken for you both. I did wonder why no recent photos of Stan had been posted and now I know why. You will be devastated, I know BB having received this news. You took Stan in in a, frightened sad state and against all odds, through your care and understanding encouraged him to regain his trust in humans once again. The photos you have regularly posted saw major changes in him. Gradually, step by step his confidence began to grow. The photos of him showed the absolute pleasure in life as he began to enjoy life with you. These life changes was because of you and the love and care you showered on him. How wonderful is that?
My last dog also suffered with dementia. H slept in the day and wailed all night long and being practically blind would bump into things. Like you I couldn't relax and worried constantly about him. He was 15 years old and had also had a bad start in life but now his quality of life was nigh on zero. It is the hardest thing in the world to accept when its the right time to let go. This was the time I knew but I was broken hearted as I loved him so much.
Thankfully, it appears that Stan still enjoys his daily activities with you so that time has not come as yet. I feel very tearful writing in response to your post BB as it brings back painful memories. However, like others on here we have all gone on that journey with you from the time when you acquired Stanley. Yes, he also had a bad start in life but thankfully became part of your family so what a lucky dog he was to be able to enjoy the rest of his life with you. Of course this is devastating news but fortunately there are people like you who will always offer a home to a dog like Stan, who will always love and support their pets right to the very end. Just as I know you will be there for Stanley. I want to say much more but for now I want you to know my thoughts are genuinly with you BB.
Sending you my love to you both. Your friend, RR xxxxx
I am so very sorry BB. π It must be heartbreaking. I wish I could say something to make it better but I know he is in the best home to care for him. Sending love to you both. xx β€οΈ
So sorry to hear your news my daughters beloved rescue dog(had been horribly abused) had the same diagnosis.
He continued to enjoy his life in his own little way was always a much loved member of the pack and his tail never stopped wagging.
Sending you huge gentle hugs. You rescued him from a bad situation and he has brought such joy into our lives with his adorable happy antics captured so beautifully by your brilliant photography x
Did I see this on Twitter as well? Have you thought about a GPS tracker so if he wanders too far you can find him? Make sure it is swim proof! My sons lab has dementia - diagnosed several years ago and is still enjoying life .
Very sorry to hear that Bb. We love our animals don't we because they are family. I'm sure you will keep him safe and as long as he's got you he will be happy.
Such sad news BB no wonder you are heartbroken. Our lovely Stan has managed to crawl into many hearts on here and think we are all feeling a little crushed x
My thought are with you. My 16 year old Border Terrier developed this in his final year and there were times when it was hard for both of us. He never lost his hatred of the chocolate lab round the corner though. Love to both of you xx
You write so lovingly and tenderly of Stanley's recent behaviours. He is our friend too and it is a great comfort that his days will be spent doing what he loves best with the people who love him most.β₯οΈ
oh Poor Stan ,my poor Binks Cat had that for a Year or so love her . She would have a bite of food , quick clean down & then howl to be fed . Had to take her back to the Bowl , took about an hour. She was 18 & she was Sunning herself in the Garden a couple of months ago when she went & strangely all 4 of my children had popped in that day & she had a cuddle with all of them . We live near a river and she would clear a rats nest in a fortnight, Pigeons freaked her out though..
Devastating news. Happily for Stan heβs in the best place he could possibly be full of love and care. My heart goes out to you as we all love them so much they leave a massive hole behind them. You are right a lot of people have come to love Stan so much through your pictures and narrative of his antics. I hope you have plenty of fun and adventures still to come together. β€οΈπ€π€
Oh hes still pushing things to the limits as best he can ...
Its just so sad to see him not recognising you ... then the next minute hes Stan again ..
I have a tracker on him as hes been running off in the opposite direction of everyone else .. when before he had to be the leader of the pack on a walk the others seem to know which is really strange...they still try to follow him π§‘
Ah hello Stan, just licking your chops. π He is in a good home where he is loved to bits. In his present circumstances, he couldn't wish for better. It is so heartwarming to know he is being looked after. xx π₯°
So sorry to read your news. It is a great consolation to all Stan's friends here to know that he is in the best possible place with you and his family and his doggy friends around him. May the Alzheimer's progress slowly. xxxx
Such sad news, hopefully with medication and loving care he will enjoy life while longer. Our pets are very precious to us, we love each other. My very best wishes to you and Stan. Jean and Morrison xxx
I am so sorry about this news; he has brought me so much joy. I hope his days are filled with peace and comfort somewhere in his loving brain. You have given him a wonderful life. Bless you and him.
aww! What a shame. Poor little dog. Itβs sad when our animals start to deteriorate. I had three at one time and one looked a bit like your dog. Unfortunately he got cancer in the jaw. We had him operated on but a week or two after he was crying eating his food. I took him back to the vet and they operated again and found it had spread to the bones so nothing they could do. It was heartbreaking. Fortunately none of my dogs had Alzheimerβs . One of them however was always a nut case and always caused trouble. He was loved anyway.
Stan will not realise what is happening but you will be seeing it progress. Poor Stan but you gave him a good life when you rescued him and , will continue to care for him. So he has had a better life since thanks to you .
So sorry to hear about Stan's recent diagnosis. I'm so happy to hear you already have a tracker for him. You really do take the best care of him and he can still enjoy his romps in the woods and streams. He has a very good life with you BB9.
So sorry to hear of Stan's diagnosis, BB. It must be very hard to see his behaviour changing, but he will be so well cared for and will still give you much pleasure . Big hug for Stan xxx
Its getting used to things and his reactions on whats normal has now changed..
Thanks ever so much π
We are sorry to hear about Stan as well.
Years ago a colleague was distraught after she had put her Jack Russell Ben to sleep after he hadnt been very well and i had comforted her in spite of her not having been very nice to me prior to that.
Iβm so very sorry to hear this. Poor boy. It must be so hard for you to see him deteriorate but I know you will give him the best care. He will still have his best friend to care for him who loves him very much.
If he is eating and happy, that is #1. This is the worst part of owning these precious babies. Can he run in an area you can keep track of him? I am dealing with a badly arthritic cat who is have mobility issues. On prednisone and other wise happy. Sad.....
awww sorry to hear that yes -like Oshgosh said you have to give time - When I had a horse - he had an operation & his entire routine changed & I had to make sure i adjusted
He is your baby and I know you will be there for him. Feel sorry for Stan and for you. He has so much spirit and a loving home! Yes... it is a cruel world. We need to find a cure for Alzheimer's
