Cough.

I have noticed over the past few months that when I cough just to clear my throat I sometimes bring up a little bit of the red stuff, doesn't happen all the time but it's there. I thought I was maybe just coughing a little bit hard? Think its time for a visit to the docs, however I'm starting to lose faith in my doc, he is starting to make me feel like I'm a burden every time I visit him. I just feel there is more questions than answers to this Emphysema.

never feel like a burden - if he as a problem, its his problem. You may have a slight infection so need to see him to get it sorted. If its a practice ask for another doc. Hope you sort it soon xxx

I know, my doc is a partner in the practice, might look about and change.

Is there a practice nurse at your surgery, you might feel more comfortable talking to them.I always get the boot in first with a bit of humour eg ( I know you've just been dying to see me) lol.

Hi again 1968, sorry you don't feel comfortable with your doctor, sadly the NHS is under pressure and as one would expect that reflects on patient care. You do need to see the doctor again if your symptoms have changed, so that is a good decision you have made. My sentiment is if patients were not sick then we would not need ,doctors nurses or the NHS creating more unemployed. But that's the political side of it, take care and see your doctor if necessary and don't feel you are a nuisance you have a right to care if you have a chronic illness just the same as acute illness. Best wishes that your current problem is not serious, as a lung condition is bad enough on its own.

1968 the most likely reason you are coughing up blood is that you have ruptured a small blood vessel while coughing

BUT you should always go to the doctor whenever you cough up blood, as it could be something more serious, and he will send you for a chest x-ray...you are not troubling him unnecessarily...you MUST get it checked out

Let us know what happens

David, before you actually change your registered GP just get a one off appointment with the partner and see how you get on. Most practices don't have a problem with patients seeing the other doctors. Only if you feel the partner is able to relate better and you are more comfortable think about changing.

Good luck with the blood. As Sahara says it is likely a small rupture but don't gamble.

Regards Rib

Hi David I am doing this too. Started 2/3 weeks ago it was for about 6 days am. Doctor said see how it goes, come back if it continues. Stopped for a while but now it is happening again. Not every day but sometimes am sometimes pm. It is worrying isn't it. The Doctor said if it continues he will send me for an xray. I have an appointment to go back in a week. Good luck at the Doctors.xx

Hi David please get it sorted I had the same and because it was only a small amount I put off pushing to get it checked and then when I had an x ray for another problem they found the cancer. I am not saying thats your problem, just get it checked pal. Keep smiling Fred.

Morning David, I think you need to get it checked sooner rather than later. My husbands doctor openly admits that we know more about COPD than she does in terms of my his personal care. Each patient is different, has different needs and differing severity of symptoms. Do not feel a burden - it is your doctors job to help you. Ask if there is a specialist respiratory team in your area and ask for a referral. It took me five years to find that one out! If you are unhappy ask for a referral to a consultant. Take good care, stay positive and proactive, lots of love TAD xx

Hi David you should have got the message by now from the members, and as with them I would give the same advice, stop worrying about the doctor, and think about yourself, he is getting a good wage to do the job he is doing. Just go and tell him your concerns. hope all goes well for you Malk.

David I hope you have been back to your Doctor and asked for advise and if necessary referral. I have been coughing up a little blood on and off since the middle of October. I did have about 12 days clear then it started again. Saw the Doctor around a week after it started. His advise then was see how it goes if it doesn't clear see me again. Went today and I'm to have a chest xray tomorrow and he is going to get me a Consultant appointment within two weeks. He told me not to go away thinking it's definitely "sinister" his words, but it needs investigating. xx

To heck with making him feel burdened - it is his job! Perhaps you could ask for another doctor???? - may be speak to one of the nurses at BLF? you need to reassure yourself!!! :) Take care and let us all know how you get on :)
