Hi there margotin, I use the spiriva inhaler and havent had any problems. I have had different inhalers in the past which have made me cough. I would check with your G.P. who will probably recommend a different inhaler. :)

Hi Margotin, I would second Jillygirl's advice I have been using Spirava for a few years now with no problem but it may not be good for you. I too have had inhalers that made my cough worse in the past. It is a case of trial and error to get what is personally best for you.It may just be the difference between powder inhaler or liquid inhaler not necessarily the kind of drug itself. Also some other medicines & tablets can effect the cough or cause it, your local chemist maybe able to advise on this so it is worth asking. Good luck with getting to the cause of your coughing spasms.

Hi margotin Im on the spiriva respimat which is a fine mist not powder. It might make a difference but as Jillygirl and Katieoxo say go back to the docs there will be options for sure.Staywell now :) Janexx

You haven't mentioned getting a dry mouth margotin so this may not be relevant, but dry mouth with spiriva is a common side effect. I had it and it made me cough and i literally couldn't speak without taking a flask of water everywhere with me. And this was using the Respimat version of spiriva. I had to stop.

As the others say, go back to the doc and discuss and see what else is on offer.

I have tried Spiriva twice now but had to give it up as gave me a deep cough and my chest also felt "tight". I was on seretide for years, but now on Symbicort 200/60 which is brilliant - lung capacity improved and no coughing (and I can walk up hills again). My understanding is we're all different so just a case of finding out what suits you personally.
