Hi, Can anyone tell me what side effects spiriva would cause. I have read the leaflet but would rather hear if anyone gets side effects. I wont go on about my symptoms because i dont want to appear to be moaning, i know theres so many people far worse off than me.

Thank you for your reply. I do have a bit of water retention but not enough to bother me. I am getting awful metallic taste in back of throat, especially when i cough, also sweat a lot.

Very rarely do I use them any longer for 1 I was using so many breathing medications and many with steroids that my skin became onion thin, bleed so easy, bruise bad right under skin. Biggest reason if used all possible, when I get really bad, nothing left to help me. My Doctor was encouraged. I had the flu, used it 3 days. It and daily resp hurt me with side effects long term but not occasionally. Hope helps. I started slow, unless an exhauserbation I try to get 20,000 steps in a day. Really slow but forces my body to continue to work. I am fighting this. Took my daddy, mommy and only sibling my baby sister. Sadly learned alot. Gonna start a fundraiser for the lung institute. They are amazing! Here 24 7 if need me

The whole point of this site is to be able to moan whenever you feel the need sheepdog. So don't hold back.

Re Spiriva, many people seem to do well on it, but I can't take it. I get such a dry mouth and throat that I can't speak and can feel my throat sticking to itself. This happens not just with Spiriva but with other drugs in the same class (anti-muscarinics) and it's a real nuisance as i think in other ways it would be very helpful.

I hope you find it useful sheepdog (great name btw :) ) though I see from your reply to Fran that you've got a couple of issues. Sometimes people adjust after a few weeks.

Thank you for your reply. Yes i get dry throat and mouth and only since using spiriva, so maybe i need to give it more time, only been on it a month. Its helping my breathing so thats the main thing! ( my name speaks for it self, i have border collies, love them, but not working dogs now.)

Biotine, awesome for driness. My pain meds make mine always rough. I inhaled a small price of plastic from spriiva once. That was scary

I am one of those who had no problem with it. No side effects at all that I know of

in reply toandyrrc

Thank you for your reply. As ive said to Caspiana i think my problems are just effects of the copd.

That's awesome. If I did not try to work beyond stupidity I would not have. But every box I put a package in it would pip my arm and blood running everywhere. Ughhh was rough embarrassed and needed my job, I got to 12% breathing left before I sadly conceded. anytime call will talk

Do you use spiriva? I sometimes wonder where the tiny bit of plastic goes when capsule is punctured? I hope its not inhaled! The mesh filter inside the device doesnt seem small enough to trap it and i never see any bits of plastic. Sorry, i’m probably being stupid.

It is probably going into our oceans like other plastics and such! Sea creatures injest tiny pieces of plastics and in turn we eat them! I am hoping that they are gel and just melt away. Netflix has a good doc

Oops lost that reply... the doc is called our plastic oceans (I think) a real eye opener!

in reply toLindy-loo1949

Yes, i watched that documentary, was quite disturbing.!

in reply toLindy-loo1949

I put the used capsule in the household rubbish so that wont go in the sea. And i think the tiny bit from the hole stays pushed back in the capsule. I dont like to see all the plasic that pollutes our oceans and destroys fish and wildlife, its disgraceful and can be avoided. So uneccessary.

Yes! We were given such a beautiful gift, all the diversity within our oceans and you are right it is so disturbing! Glad to see you are being a good steward☺

Hello Hidden . I have had no adverse effects. I am very careful after inhaling it, I brush my teeth and gargle well. And please, never worry about moaning. 😊 I do it pretty often. 😑 Hope you are keeping well. xx 🌱🌿

in reply toCaspiana

Thank you. I think the problems are maybe just from the copd and not the spiriva. I guess the metallic taste is because of congestion in the chest.

Not sure where the little bit goes but I have a feeling it stays attached to the capsule - will have to check later:)

in reply toandyrrc

Thank you for reply, yes my dear friend tells me that the bit of plastic pushes back on itself in the capsule. He even got a magnifying glass on it, but i still wasnt convinced.!

I use the Spiriva Respimat. It's more like a mist; there are no capsules. I haven't noticed any side effects. On the other hand, it's hard to tell if it's helping or not. I guess it is. I also use Symbicort. With that one, I really need to rinse my mouth well or my voice will become hoarse. The only drugs that I ever noticed real side effects with were antidepressants. The last one I took led to really rapid weight gain. I quit without telling the doc and I started losing some of the weight. The only other thing I take now is Xanax, but I have a feeling my docs are going to cut me off from those.
