Hi Budgiesmom, a salt pipe is an inhaler that contains salt crystals, it is used for 20 min per day, 10 min in the morning & 10 min before bed. It helps to breakdown the mucus build up and makes it easier to cough up, I have also not had to use my inhaler for 2 days now, but I only started to use it on Monday, they are available from Holland & Barret and also on the internet

Hi btown.......thanks for the info....doubt if it will be of use to me as I have high B/P.

But its well worth remembering......

Cheers.

It is exactly what it sounds like - a pipe type object, in which you put special salt (usually Himalayan) which you inhale - supposed to be good for clearing the airways. There are also Salt Caves in various locations where you go to sit in a room encased in salt, which is ionised, and which you also breathe in (one-hour sessions) - this is quite costly though. The salt pipes are much more economical.

Interesting, I live by the sea so get daily doses of salt! and I do think the benefits are enourmous for lung patients, so guess anyway your able to infuse it ...go do!

why oh why don't you just stop smoking ?

jeanielee profile image

What has smoking got to do with salt pipes

frank65 profile image
frank65 in reply tojeanielee

most people use salt pipes as an aid to stopping smoking

jeanielee profile image
jeanielee in reply tofrank65

Frank65 I think your mistaking the salt pipe for something else ,salt pipes are used for respiratory aids children can use them to help with croupe .

Hi Frank65, the salt pipe I am using is for medicinal purposes, it aids thinning of mucus and helps with breathlessness. Its nothing to do with smoking. I have never heard of the use you suggest.

I've looked up about salt therapy it is ideal for some people but not suitable for other's such as people with kidney disease, diabetes or hypertension apparently, which is unfortunate for some of us I wander what other alternatives there are other than salt pipes & salt caves for those unable to have salt therapy! Does anyone one know of any alternatives!?

Hi all, I'm thinking I might try the salt pipe.. My chest is very tight and I'm so sleepy on it. I have chronic bronchitis &asthma as a result of alpha trypsin deficiency. Energy levels are low. What price are they
