Does anyone on here use these ? If yes can you tell me what the benefits are for COPD. The-next question is where do you get them from and roughly how much. Sorry for all the questions but they seem kind of interesting.

Only what it says about them commercially. I have one on all day every day. in the winter I may put one on in the bedroom. Electric, I also have one that is a tea light holder, mainly used in the winter as it give good ambience. I have several aids, such as air purifier fans, humidifiers, de humidifiers and also use a salt pipe as and when.

With all the different options available. I will try anything to help improve air quality and I think it does help whether its psychological or not. I do think though its not just psychological.

I got one given to me, and the others I bought on Amazon, prices vary depending on the seller and the size of the lamp, there are some lovely ones out there though.

Enjoy :D

As an after thought, when you buy one I would go for one that has a bowl with the large chunks of hymalay rock salts in, as with this type after several years you can change the chunks for new ones if the old ones get too dusty, I have done this with the one I have on every day.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to my post. People on here are so generous with advice and information. I cannot think of another website where you could trust the answers like you can on here. Why are all the nicest people sick, it seems all wrong.

Many thanks

PS did you see the post about being careful walking your animals due to hot pavements etc. People are so thoughtful on here.

Do you both have lung conditions? I think it is wonderful that you can still go travelling. When i was young i loved to travel, sadly the agoraphobia got me and put an end to my wandering.

Yes, I was diagnosed with moderate COPD in March 2015. By following the advice and tips made by others on this site, I have kept the same 69% lung function. Plus I do a great deal of singing too, leading choirs and singing groups.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

Yes i have read that singing is really good for lung conditions, sadly i do not have a voice although i love singing along to music as long as i am alone. You sound as if you are doing very well, i need to do more to improve my copd, i am trying but it is hard somedays. Take care xxx

The group I run doesn't expect excellence in singing, just willingness to have a go. Not every singing group is a choir.

Thank you for replying, sorry i took so long but i could not get on site. Are you in the UK ? If yes, how are you dealing with this heat, i am melting. Need an ice- cream ❤️

My nephew and his girlfriend live with me and she sings. A great voice but no confidence, i have been telling her to take some classes or something. The school bullies stole her confidence, so sad. I don’t want her to let them win.

Take care x

Yes, I'm in south Cheshire. I'm wearing loose cotton clothes and have fanlights open in the front and the back of the house to let the air circulate. My work room is north facing with a relatively small window for the size of the room, which helps to keep it cool in comparison with the rest of the house.

Sorry to hear about the bullies. There are some great online classes for singing on YouTube - she doesn't need to leave the house to improve her voice. Maybe you could look some up for her and send her their web addresses in an email.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

What a great idea, it is more her confidence that is a problem. When she sings and it just her and i, she sounds amazing. As soon asanyone else is involved she gets self conscious and i hear it in her voice. Sad what bullies can do to someone. I said to her last night, imagine if you appeared on the “ voice” tv programme and were a success, imagine the bullies watching you then.

I hope you are coping with the heat, i am a lot better today than i was yesterday. Strange how it changes.

Take care xxx

I should have mentioned that she lives with me so i will tell her tonight about youtube. I should have thought of that, i think my brain is getting foggy from all these meds. Xxx

I hope she does find some singing lessons she enjoys on YouTube. Perhaps later you could persuade her to go to some 'open mike' sessions in a local pub or social club for a listen, and then when she's there, persuade her to have a go.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

Thanks for that information, i spoke to her last night about looking on youtube and she is going to follow it through. Years ago she got up and sung at a karoke night, i think she may have had a couple of drinks first. L. O. L.

It is a bit cooler here today, i hope your weather is better as well. Yes, today is absolutely gorgeous ❤️

Have a wonderful day. Xxx

It wasn't that much cooler for us yesterday, but there is some cloud today. Have a wonderful day. Enjoy that trip to the pub/social club whenever you're able to persuade her. Xxx

Hi Ergendl, sadly i cannot go with her as to top it all, i have agoraphobia and struggle to leave the house. At least today was cooler than it has been for ages. I feel like i am always moaning about things. When i was young , i trained to be a hairdresser. I used to laugh at the older women who all came in with the same complaints.” It’s raining” “ it’s too hot” “ why does it always rain when i get my hair done” blah, blah, blah. I never thought i would become one of those people , I was wrong !!!

My life plan did not include OLD, SICK , AND BORING ~. The arrogance of youth.

Have a wonderful evening ❤️

Have you read the book “feel the fear and do it anyway” . I read it many , many years ago and found it quite helpful.

No, but it sounds like something I should read. I belong to a fellowship following a 24 hour program, which encourages me to get the most out of each day by focusing on my today and not thinking too much about my yesterdays or tomorrows.

You sound as if you are a really positive person from your posts. It seems that you are always going somewhere or taking part in an activity ~ meanwhile i am still sitting on my sofa reading about your life.

Take care, enjoy your day. Xx

I wasn't always like this. I had severe clinical depression as a teenager and young adult. A mentor helped me work through all my issues and walk through all my fears. What is the worst that can happen if I do this? Get embarrassed because I've said the wrong thing/fallen over/made the wrong decision. Well, that's just pride, and I'm not going to let false pride ruin my life.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

Well said. You only live once, to limit your life because you worry about other people and how they perceive you is a shame. I am really happy for you that you overcame all your problems. Depression is awful. ❤️

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply tosheila1kerry

Thinking about your earlier post regarding how much you struggled with depression and clinical depression at that. Depression as a word is so inadequate, it sounds like “justa bit down in the dumps” when in reality it is so much more. Did anything bring it on, or just a chemical imbalance or some unknown, sorry it sounds as if i am prying , how long did it take you to overcome it , you sound really on top of things now. Such a shame that it spoiled an important part of your life. I find that so many people on here have such good knowledge, far more than the professionals who are supposed to have answers.

Have a wonderful day ❤️

I suffered from clinical depression from about the age of 10 through to 29, undiagnosed until I was 18. My depression was caused by struggling to live in the alien 'normal' world with my undiagnosed high functioning autism - the latter wasn't identified until I trained as a teacher when I was 49, when it was spotted by one of the teachers training me. At the age of 29 I embarked on one of the 12 step programmes, and haven't looked back (well, except to learn how to do things better than I used to).

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

Hi Ergendl, sorry i only just saw your reply. I am not good with technology - still - even though i have beenntrying for a few years now. Depression from age 10, that is horrific. At 10 it must have been so confusing, also for your parents. My nephew Liam has ADHD that was not properly diagnosed, i know how hard he found things at times. He though, like you, has found ways to overcome the worst of it. How brave to train as a teacher at 49, (brave at any age with some of today’s children) . Did you get officially diagnosed or she suggested that she thought you were autistic. The high functioning part, is that like the “rainman” film where you are almost genius in a specific area? Or does it mean generally high functioning. Sorry to be so ignorant, but you sound like such a warm person and i believed autism was usually quite detached, i have watched documenteries on children with autism and it is sad to see the parents pain. I saw one on a couple who had twins, they would only communicate with each other, would not even look at their parents. They took them swimming with dolphins, after a couple of sessions ,one got out of the water and said mummy - such a small thing - both parents were crying their eyes out, the twins were five and it was the first time they had acknowledged them since they were about 18 months old.

Sorry for the long post, i hope i am not boring you to tears.

Beautiful day today here, i hope it is the same for you.

Huge hug and take care x

Ergendl profile image
Ergendl in reply tosheila1kerry

The teacher directed me to the Autism Association site where I took their tests. It's too complicated to try to get a diagnosis myself. I'm high functioning in that I am quite intelligent and so have been able to overcome most of the obstacles. I just leave people looking very confused at times, with my replies. :)

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toErgendl

Well you come across really well on here. As to leaving some people confused, maybe they were confused already and it was nothing to do with you.

When you were a child, did the depression start because you felt that you were different to other people? Most children just want to fit in don ‘t they.

I hope you are havinga wonderful day. It is lovely and cool here, gives us a break from the heat.

Take care, big hug.

Hello Sheila, I use salt lamp, I have it right next to my bed and I turn on when I wake up and turn off before going to sleep, I have been using it almost 2 years now and I like it , I read it cleans air and it’s the one of the reason I started to using it , not sure if it’s working but I enjoy looking at it or feel nice have it on in the dark. I bought it from amazon but can’t remember how much.

Hi Mnonchan, thanks for answering my post. Sorry i took sk long to reply but i could not access the site all day - really odd, never happened before to me- my sister in law is bringing me one. Itcan’t make me worse anyway. This heat is getting to me, my breathing is terrible today, i was up all night as well. I am in London and we are used to grey wet days, not beautiful blue skies. I need air con. Is it affecting you as well?

I hope this finds you well. X

Hi Sheila 1kerry ,I brought my salt lamp from the market,it cost me 39pound, unfortunately it didn't help me so I gave it to my cousin, then my cousin gave it me back as if anything it made her worst, sorry to be negative ,but I use it in the winter as it brighters the living room up.

Wishing you a lovely new start to a new week.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry in reply toSusan1200

Hi Susan, i appreciate your honesty. I know with COPD the symptoms can change from hour to hour, sometimes it is hardto know what helps and what makes us worse. Some days i drive myself crazy, it is the dust, the pollen, the dog, the weather, the meds - it is everything. My son thinks i am crazy, he said “when you get bad, you go to tablets, nebs, cough mix etc etc etc”

My reply - desperation. You have to try to find some humour in these situations, dark as they are. Maybe a warm light will bring comfort❤️

Sorry the delay in replying,I agree the salt lamp dose look cosy in the winter.

I had pneumonia and an infection in March after the hospital doctor checking me out he said I could go home to get my self better,I was so bad I couldn't go and see my own doctor,so I asked for a home visit, this doctor who visited me , gave me a Aero Chamber mask and I put my inhaler inside,I must say I have noticed a big difference in my breathing.,are you on Oxygen ? I am not.if your not maybe you could ask your doctor about it.

I wish you all the best 🐘 take care.

Kind regards

Susan.

sheila1kerry profile image
sheila1kerry

Hi Susan, no i am not on oxygen , what is an aero- chamber supposed to do? I have never heard of it before but i will look it up. If it helps your breathing, possibly will help me too. I have a nebuliser at home and two three inhalers. I was borderline for needing oxygen but i could not stop smoking until recently. Have you fully recovered from the pneumonia, that must have been awful for you. Once your health is compromised every thing gets us. I hope you are feeling much stronger. I just realised is it called a spacer as well? I have tried it and it is better. My biggest problem was learning how to breathe properly. My nose was broken many years ago and i started being a mouth breather, only now do i realise the harm it can cause you because you don’t filter out the rubbish. So i am trying to improve my breathing via youtube videos.

Sorry for waffling on, thanks for taking the time to reply. ❤️
